When someone asks the question about color all of a sudden going wacky, color space is the easiest first question. :-)

<====== Has a pretty simple thought process. If the answer had been no, I'd have been useless...lol

Since I shoot almost entirely in natural light, and almost always in RAW, I leave my WB set at "cloudy", which gives me a slightly warmer rendition of scenes. This way, when the RAW thumbnails open up, "cloudy" is the displayed default. Then, as necessary, I correct in the RAW converter. If I am shooting outdoors to JPG, I just leave it at "cloudy" most of the time, seems to be the best all-around setting for scenics.

I agree. I shoot jpg and cloudy day WB seems to increase contrast as well, which helps make sunsets awesome.
I hope that the problem with the OP is just what Fotoman said, just that Adobe RGB is switched on.

In the same vein, I was going to ask if the file naming had changed -- Nikon changes the file naming from DSC_nnnn in the sRGB color spaces to _DSCnnnn when you switch to Adobe RGB color space as a way to remind you to convert color spaces if necessary before printing. Hope that's all it was, but yeah, those posted shots seem to be lacking more than just accurate color (i.e. maybe some other settings should be tweaked as well).

Since the problem has been resolved I'm going ahead and deleting these from my workshop.

I'm on holiday at the moment and switched from auto to cloudy WB this morning. Lovely! Thanks for the advice.

^ yes, I have been shooting on Cloudy WB almost exclusively for a couple of months now. It doesn't work for all situations, but I don't have to fix WB nearly as much in post-process now.

Shade works really well also though warms it up a bit more than cloudy. I'm finding that something in between is usually where it ends up when I do the RAW conversion.
