For me distance is:
Separation between two things.
If things are touching each other, there is no distance, but if they separated from each other, distance starts, and it probably starts from one atom length to light years away.
Of course like many other words, it also used in none-material way things, such as thoughts. "There is a distance between what you think and what I think", means thinking differently.
So, I am not sure "far" comes to our mind first when we think if "distance"
