2 hours and nothing! I recall people here giving for a new camera for a member. I guess I am mistaken thinking people here cared.

It seems unless it is a material item and kudos points can be scored, it doesn't matter.

Fine, but if that is the attitude of members here, then I don't belong here. I don't have much money, but I have given. I have Cancer, as do others here, but that doesn't seem to count."

I realize that... and like I said, I totally disagreed with that thread. You have a right to be offended.

That seems pretty clear to me that the community as a whole was being blasted, and since my mom died of breast cancer, I don't have to take that sh*t from anyone.

Do you for one second think that I could possibly be opposed to supporting breast cancer research?

What I was also trying to point out is that there are so many worthy causes, that it's wrong to even entertain the idea that any one is more important than the other and that there are way too many people that do more than they have to because their hearts are good and they don't feel the need to trumpet it from the rooftops.

You know, my friend never mentioned in that thread why he wanted to do this thing. Just that he did. We never made a claim that this cancer was more important than others. I don't think it is, personally. After all, it's not the type I had. But I am trying to help my friend achieve his goals. I am very sorry to hear about your mother.

If you and I were sitting somewhere having lunch and a young man/woman with a bright smile and a polite manner had a white cup with a pink ribbon stopped by the table would I dig in my pocket? You bet!

But having really having not followed this thread too much, I wasn't aware that it had reached critical mass and that this kind of behavior was in order.

? I wasn't yelling... it was more of a plea. That is one reason I hate typing anything... people miss my tone. :)

And it weasn't the same person who made mention of asking SC and/or the administration aboutr it, and yes, they're grownups and can make their own decisions, but it's in exceedingly poor taste to purt them in that position in the first place. We all know better than to make that kind of request. You're asking them to make a no-win decision.

All we asked for was a Breast Cancer challenge. That's it. Anything else that came from that was lagniappe. It was decided that it should be a pink challenge instead because it would be distasteful to see breasts in a breast cancer challenge (and you just know somebody would do that). ;)

They say yes, and every decent organization trying to help their cause could expect them to do the same for them, and if they say no, then mightn't someone decide they're an uncaring lot as well?

So I wasn't so much taking it as a personal affront about being badgered, but that I am one person of the membership that was being tarred who certainly had reason to call that issue onto the carpet.

Terry ClubJuggle has had his MS walk plea tastefully on his signature for some time, and others here manage to tout their causes without involving the administration or abusing anybody.

That was all I meant to convey.

And Leroy, that comment is taken totally out of context and not at all how it was meant.

I am *NOT* in favor of taking all photography threads off the site; in another endless mean-spirited discussion, I had the audacity to suggest that a non-photography thread that gets ugly really isn't much in the spirit of DPC, and isn't particularly relevant.

I always seem to be thought of having the worst intent and see the ugly in everything.....I just don't think like that and I get horrified when people are mean.

I really should learn to keep my mouth shut.

No, you should never shut up!! Then we would be like everyone else and what fun would that be?? I have just heard so much crap from other people about "why don't you raise money for something that matters" this thread really rubbed me the wrong way. Still, like you, I tried really hard not to yell because I am really just not that kind of person either. :)

Would YOU be interested in using your camera to shoot a month for the calendar? To do all 12 months ourselves will be a LOT of work, but I would really like to divide it and get enough volunteers so everyone can do 1 month each.

Eh, if you want to know more about that, feel free to go visit THAT thread... I will not hijack yours. :)

ABSOLUTELY!!!!

I don't know if you were involved in Stephanie's project at all, but what she did was ask if she could use images that she found in various members' portfolios for a school project.

Much to her surprise, not mine I'd like to say, there was a huge outpouring of people who said, "Yeah, I have something you like, go for it.".

She used one of my images I'm thrilled to say, and she got an A on the project thanks in part to the good people here.

And I don't care who ya are, a good warm fuzzy just makes life a little better!

So yes, I'd love to help, tell me what you'd like me to do, send me the link and/or should the idea of an image recruitment from existing portfolios be a decent idea, again, I'd love to help that way.

I'm actually kind of broke and unemployed right now, so time and love I got......cash I don't!

Yessir, she used "I Command" from my port also.

I am working out the details of the calendar thing... thread will be up sometime tonight :)
