I recently broke my years old camera(3.3mp if that gives you any idea) and cannot afford, as of yet, much of a replacement. I am looking for something in the ballpark of $100, and the most important feature is the latency between pressing the button and taking the picture. This was a real problem on the old camera. Can you recommend a decent camera with low latency? |

Ok, I'm not sure I asked the question in the right way, but I'm looking for an entry level camera, with a focus on speed of taking pictures over high end photo quality. Any tips? |

The question was fine- it's your price range that's likely the problem. There are very few digicams available for $100, and low latency tends to be a feature of higher end models. For $100, you generally get what you pay for. :-( |

do you care if it's used or not? You could probs find a second hand 5mp point and shoot camera for that price on ebay. My Powershot A85 was refurbished from ebay and was £120 i think, this was 2 or so years ago. Now I'm sure you could find one for less thsn $100. |

Good points both. Then to further rephrase, what is the best of the worst among these? |

I have a Nikon Coolpix L6 that does pretty well. Not using it as much since I bought my Canon S5. Not a lot of manual control, but it has taken some photos I am very pleased with. We discussed this series in a similar thread just the other day: Coolpix L series thread

At that price, I think you'll find little differentiation between the bad and the worst. |

If you can stretch your budget a bit you may be able to find an Olympus E-10 on Ebay for about $175 if you're persistent in your looking. But it's not a simple camera and very SLR like with hardly any shutter lag. It's certainly not pocketable and quite heavy but image quality is quite high.
Another Ebay option would be to peruse Olympus America auctions. They sell both new and refurbished P&Ss for very cheap. This is probably the better option for you for the price you want to pay but I doubt it will give you a camera with low shutter latency. Here's the link. |

If it were me, I'd pounce all over a Fuji Finepix f10 on eBay. They sell for about $120, and offer outstanding image quality and minimal shutter lag. |
