I've been doing a lot of research and had finally decided on the A1. All my research had been online though. When my husband and I went out to actually find this camera, we found that there is no store anywhere that we have found that actually carries it. However, in our tour of stores, my husband decided he really likes the Fuji S7000. According to dpreview, the Fuji has better resolution and seems to be the better camera for the money. However, as a former camera store worker, I am still haunted by the memories of how bad a product Fuji 35mm cameras were.

Anyone have some suggestions?

Thanks!

Have you read the reviews at megapixel.net. They rated the A1 over the S7000. Both are fairly new but should be in your local stores soon.

I actually have that up in another window as I'm typing this. :)

Thanks!

I have never used a Fuji 35mm but I have owned both a 2800Z and S7000. Bot do exactly what you tell it too - I'm on my third S7000. lol! Other than the horrible sellers of this product, I'll be biased and say it's a great step towards a dSLR. It's full manual use of shutter from Bulb, 15sec - 1/10000. Only downside of having such a nice shutter speed, it lacks in fstop. full wide it gets 2.6 - 8. Un full tele it starts at 3.1. The manual focus ring is an ace thing to have when you use super macro mode. Other than owning three of them, it's a decent camera to have, might wanna try s5000, depending on how high tech you want to go.

Can't say I'm biased either because I owned a Minolta 35mm, and own a DiMAGE X20 ;)

I've done online research into both of these cameras in the last couple of weeks as well, and decided on the A1 over the S7000, even tho the A1 was slightly more expensive.

From what I've read, the only thing the S7000 has over the A1 is the resolution - in almost all other ways, the A1 seems better.

Try the feature comparison function at dpreview: Side by Side comparison

From here, the A1 features win it for me. Fairly similar, but A1 has a few extra:
7x zoom (compared to 6x)
Anti shake
up to 30sec exposure, plus bulb (compared to 15 sec+bulb)
Down to 1/16000sec exposure (compared to 1/2000, 1/10000 in manual sec)
Time lapse recording (this looks like fun - set camera to take pics at intervals from 30 secs to an hour, and to start anytime up to 24hours away).
Tiltable LCD screen and EVF.

Of course, the S7000 has a few benefits as well - higher resolution, ability to use XD card, USB 2.0.

So - for me, the US$60 extra for the A1 was worth it.

Unfortunately, I cant give an opinion based on use as yet, because the camera is currently in transit from the US, I'll have it in a few days.
