Ladies and gentlemen, and fellow photographers . . . It's now time to declare the winner of the largest cash prize ever awarded to an amateur photographer . . . Our Photographer of the Year for 2004 . . . and Grand Prize winner of $5,000 is . . .

Melissa King!

We're familiar with your photography, Melissa, and you know . . .
it could happen just that way!

Dear Melissa,

I would like to inform you of your nomination as Photographer of the Year for 2004, and to personally invite you to compete at the single largest gathering of photographers in history, where you will be formally inducted as an Honorary Member of our Society for 2004.

Your induction will take place Friday evening, April 2nd in the United States Capital, Washington, D.C., during the 2004 International Society of Photographers 2004 Convention and Symposium.

You will also be honored with two separate and very special awards for your artistry at special ceremonies throughout the weekend.

First, to honor and commemorate your photographic accomplishments, after you display your photograph on a giant screen and speak about the story behind your photograph, amidst the applause from the audience, you will be presented with your Outstanding Achievement in Photography Silver Award Bowl. The Award is a magnificent work of art in itself ($200.00 value), uniquely engraved and mounted on a cherry-wood base (see it here). This incomparable award is so large and heavy, you may need an extra suitcase just to carry it home!

And Melissa . . . there's much more . . .
------------------------------------------------

There is more to the email, but it tell me when I go to join that it will cost me money to go

Here is the Award I will get..
Award I will Win

Verging on fraud, and almost certainly confidence trickery IMO.

I once (very rashly) entered one of their comps - and was inundated with Reader's Digest standard mails.

You only have to check their list of 'winners' to realise that just about any entry will net you a 'prize'.

The 'stop e-mail' link is at least effective.

Yes, and did you notice that "space is limited" in this supposedly invitation only seminar that will cost you $500 to attend.

Definitely iffy in my opinion.

Yet another reason not to have your email address in your profile.

You can put every name you want in that award link

Sounds like the same people who run poetry.com, my daughter found their website, entered a poem she wrote in 2nd grade and supposedly won a great prize, got invited to the convention in Florida and for only a small fee could see her poem in print in a book. Big time scam.

These are the same people that run the coffee table book scams. Anyone that submits a picture is picked to be in their book, and it'll only cost you $70 and three years waiting for them to publish the book for you to be in it. A google search will show you tons of people that actually fell for it, then never received or are still waiting for the book. Their whole opperation is pretty much fradulent I would guess.

Edit: And yes, I got the email. I've got to put them on my email block list.

I got it too. It's a clever scam to get people's money making them think they're actually receiving prizes.

I have just recently become aware that also clicking on some Hyperlinks actually can log you into a site (using you email address) and registers you exist and exactly what you are looking at. I started looking into it after receiving a phone call 10mins after Clicking of a Wine Tour Link. How they got my phone number I can only guess...Dbase:)

Be careful people!

Yep...just got my email from picture.com this morning, definately a scam, they are the same people who send out letters saying that your photo will be in such and such book, and you are a finalist in such and such competition etc. etc. Same scam as poetry.com as Deanda mentioned, just delete it and ignore it, that's the best thing you can do.

Yep me too, guess they send out to everyone whose email they have.

That picture of a trophy is generic with computer generated text in the name spot. They didn't even go to the trouble of making more then one gif.

Yeah I entered the contest, havent got email yet, but recieved a coffee table book letter,($70. for book) I checked out the business on BBB and its legit, but its more like if you want your picture published (they say you win and theres more prizes) and ( no purchase neccasarly) My opinion its the way that company scams to make money.
If dont cost anything to enter dont pay dime for a prize, If they ask for that amount money to recieve a prize after the picture has been submitted then its a business scheme to make money and they have been getting away with it for years.....
I think that it would be a far better contest if you are going to win prizes to pay a submission fee and their should be no other payment involved. If this company actually changed to subission fee then they wouldnt be able to send out on ALL the entrys a letter to order book or a email like that. They would lose money and it wouldnt be a business!

it's a scam! Everyone that enters a shot on there gets a similar letter. Try & send a nothing picture & you are bound to get another letter. Sorry, it happened to me as well

OMG! I just got the same email! Gonna run & hide!

This is a scam ---unless you want to be in their $70.00 book.

//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=12094

Everyone gets this letter usually twice a year.

I don't have the links any more but I know someone once entered a poem that was a mess of made up words that didn't make any sense at all. Of course that poem was a winner too!

I somehow imagine you will find similar things on their photo site if you look for them.

Hey Faidoi try it for real a picture of nothing, or someone who hasnt entered try it.

I just got a letter in the mail saying if you become a member for $595.00 (non member) $570 (distinguished member) you recieve (even if you dont show) A walnut finish plaque with certificate and gold seal, a membership pin crafted 10K gold and cloisonne enamel, a 2 year subscrition to bi monthly magazine, a peronal International society of membership card, An ISP card,, opputunities, to publish and promote your own photos artistry, and a some warm frienship blablah, a $25 discount for all guest.........

What a way to build up someones hopes and its all just for the money cause you know even a coffee table book at $70.00 is a bit out there......
