Cool, we could have a side challenge of L glass carrying by the girls :) and (I guess) the nokin guys would want to do their own thing whilst 'our' comp is on lol.

Serious idea, it might be worth us all having name tags or something, for the first few hours at least, otherwise it will just be confusing. Looks like it will be the biggest London GTG yet! Fantastic!!

One other thing, since we are meeting at the London Eye, lets do the group shot there and get it out of the way, I will make sure I bring the wide-angle!

We might try and get a decent setup with some lights as well? I'm sure some will bring their speedlites, so we could do something with a nifty setup.

what you need is some mobile phone numbers - I can't help, because I don't own one!

Maybe we can all get the mobile number of the main organiser? Or we could all carry/wear something distinctive.... a mass of people wearing tin foil hats or the like could be amusing lol

Perhaps the gaggle of folks wandering around carrying tons of photographic gear and snapping away at everything might be distinctive... :-) But a mobile number is probably the more sensible idea than having poor Mike wander about trying to find the gaggle.

Date is Sunday, 16 March 2008, meeting at 10am at the London Eye, where a group photo will start off the day.

This is going to be fun. Is there a plan if the weather is bad (do we all turn up anyway, but bring our fast lenses so we don't have to shoot at 1/15th)? Oh, forget it, what's the chance of rain in London in March . . .

Best,

Bruce

Maybe we should have the date in the title now. I'll send a ticket to SC.

If it raining perhaps we could head to somewhere like Exhibition Road (via Tube) and try the Natural History Museum or one of the others? Not sure what their policy on photography is though...it always seems okay to use a mobile phone or p&s but not anything SLR-like, and definitely nothing with a red ring or white...

Kew Gardens is another, but probably not workable as I can't think of a tube station nearby.

There's also HMS Belfast, which is indoor-esque for much of it, and isn't too far away from the Eye....or maybe Tate Modern for the main hall (ok, I'm drowning in cliches at this point).

Anyone got any other ideas for wet weather shooting around the Eye/Thames/Central London just in case?

The London aquarium is around 30 seconds down from the London eye. Not sure how good the shots would be through the glass etc., but it's an option...

Umbrellas and plastic baggies?? And like Rob says, what are the chances of rain in London in March, anyway? I suspect it'll be a lovely partially cloudy sky with nice warm temperatures.... (OK, maybe not.)

Quasimojo, I think we covered the Tate Modern rather exhaustively last time. The other ideas sound interesting though.
Science Museum is fine with DSLRs. Victoria and Albert are fine for most areas, but there's a hall with paintings where it's not allowed. But it didn't interest me much as a museum.

There is underground station at Kew Gardens on the District Line but it's at least half an hours travelling time from, say, Westminster Tube..if no engineering works are taking place. There are also the possibilities of Borough Market (can be colourful + it's under cover), the Imperial War Museum (do they let you take photos?), Southwark Cathedral (might be busy on a Sunday...)
