Unfortunately some thing has come up that is going to prevent me from organizing and attending. Hopefully you guys will still be able to go.

I have been looking for an excuse to go shoot in the mountains, and figured that a group would be motivation enough. And, I was hoping that you guys would inspire me on choosing a place to go.

I was hoping that there may be some people interested in getting together to photograph landscapes somewhere in the Colorado mountains. I was hoping to plan the day for mid-February. I don't have any specific ideas at the moment, so I am open to suggestions. We could plan a day out on the trail (snowshoeing), or shooting some scenics that are more easily accessible. I think the only criteria would be to choose a place that is close enough to Denver to make it a day trip.

Is anybody interested? Does anyone have suggestions on where/what to shoot?

Please let me know if you are interested, and I will keep a list of attendees in this thread. I will also list the details of when and where once we decide.

Date: Weekend of Feb. 16-17 (Leaning towards Sunday the 17th, but whichever day works best for everyone)

Location: Buena Vista has been suggested. Also, is there anywhere around Estes Park that might interest people?

Possible Attendees:

I might be interested. Not the first weekend though... I will already be up in Vail shooting the Sessions. As of right now the weekend of the 16-17th is open for me though.

There is a ton of snow this year in most of the mountains, and another foot or more expected tonight. I'd suggest the Buena Vista area, it is centrally located and has good accomadations and food.

Mountain Views; It's between Salida & Leadville. There is the Collegate (Wasatch) Range west and Mosquito Range east have some of Colorado's highest peaks. I think 12 over 14, 000 ft. Great views from highways and maintained county roads in case the snow has areas roads closed. Also, the Chalk Cliffs are really cool.

Wildlife: Bighorns winter along Chalk Creek (easy viewing and close shots), all the Rosy Finch species are in the mountain/valley towns (tame and cool), elk, mule deer, magpies, eagles and numerous other birds can be easily found. I hears there are hundreds of Bohemian Waxwings this winter in that valley.

Old Mining Towns: Great mining towns with cool old buildings and mines). (Leadville, St. Elmo, Granite, et al.)

Frozen water: The Arkansas River, Chalk Creek, Twin Lakes, Clear Creek Res., Turquoise Lake, etc. for frozen water shots.

I maybe in...Van

So far, we have one suggestion of Buena Vista for a location. It is a beautiful place, but can be a little far from Denver to make it a one day trip. Still a possibility if everyone likes the idea.

I might also suggest somewhere around Estes Park. I have spent a bunch of time in the area, but most of it has been in the back country, so I am not as familiar with photo opportunities that are easier to get to. Ideas would be great.

Does Sunday the 17th work for those people interested? If we go somewhere that people want to stay, they could arrive on Saturday and stay the night and then everyone could meet up Sunday morning.

You people suck ;-p. I wanna move to Colorado or Wyoming so bad I can't stand it. I submitted a resume to Coors brewery in Golden the other day. Hell I'd even settle for Montana or Northern New Mexico. I love the mountains.

I'll put that on my calendar and try to make arrangements..the only thing that would prevent me from going is my sons illness. Hopefully he'll be better by then.

Oh and I am driving 5 hours just to get to Denver so the less I have to travel into those mountains the better.

Guys, Unfortunately some family medical issues have come about that are going to prevent me from organizing and attending this outing. Hopefully you guys will still go.

Sorry.

If you guys head up towards Buena Vista the 16th and 17th I would probably pop in for a little. I'll already be up there on a tattoo trip both days ;)

I would rather be in Buena Vista, but have to be in Denver those days.

I am out on this one. Maybe when the weather is more predictable. We have a ton of snow here.

With as much snow as there is in the Colorado Rockies this year, we should be able to shoot mountain snow fields all summer. The state is 142% aboove normal on snow pack and some areas are over 200%.

I will be shooting something more close to sis's house. Since it sounds like this is a bust :-Þ
