I would like your opinion on this shot - the composition, idea and processing. I named it 'Bush Gallery' as I wanted to have the shed frame the bush in the background like a frame frames a painting. I know, I know, this would have been the sort of thing I could have put into the framing challenge but this photo was taken a year ago and I have been doing some work on my older photos. This shed no longer exists so I cant retake the photo either...sigh.....

I like the framing. A good photo but IMO I would lighten the inside of the barn/building, make the main subject (landscape though window) pop a little more, and burn the plywood on the bottom right of the window. And a tighter crop.
I hope you don't mind, I did a a quick edit to see what it would look like.

Hi Monique, I took a quick and dirty stab at it:
The detail in the framed bit is a bit squirrely due to not having the original, but you get the basic idea.
The framing overpowers the focal point. The window lends itself well to a natural pano-style, so that's the direction I went. Essentially, you've got this dark, heavy natural frame that just kind of thuds on your eye. The part you want people to see is what's through the window - therefore, that should take up more of the image area than the natural framing and also have the same or better contrast within that part than the other parts of your image. You don't want to lighten the whole thing up too much, because then the focal point goes gauzy on you.
So this is basically just an exposure adjustment and a crop, nothing too fancy, just trying to show you what I mean. :) Good luck with your original - it's a keeper! |

It seems to me that L2's "panoramic" version loses most of the effect you are after. SDW's lighter-shadows version is much closer to what I think you should be looking for. I much prefer the sense of the shed as a whole, within its environment over the rather arbitrary "hole in a completely isolated wall" the pano version gives us.

Maybe this is a good compromise? No edit, just crop.
