But, please go practice some before the big day. If you'll do a forum search, you'll find MANY threads here about Wedding Photography.

The biggest tip I can give is to make sure you are ready to shoot a wedding on your own. It can be a very fast paced and stressful environment. Most people start off shooting weddings as an assistant or a secondary photographer. This is a great way to learn. If you decide you are ready to take the plunge yourself, make sure you show them photographs you have taken before, so they know what to expect. The last thing you want is a family member to be unhappy with the photos you take. Also, make sure you have a back up location in case it rains/snows. Weddings are a one time event, so make sure you are up to the challenge.

Wedding thread 1
thread 2
another one

Practice lots... do you have back up equipment? if you don't, get it... practice more, if you get someone into their old wedding dress do, you'll be amazed how different photographing someone in a wedding dress is from normal shooting...

when you're done... practice more... and then remember to relax and have fun on the day... I'll forgo all the dire warning about wedding photography cause you can read them in the above threads

Yikes. So many of these scary, "I've never shot a wedding, but I'm doing one" threads all over the internet.

Weddings are high pressure, high stress, make it or break it days. Think twice about this.

I can't make any assumptions on Nikki's competence with a camera. She certainly has some decent glass in her collection, which leads me to believe she at least knows something about equipment.

They ARE high pressure, but that is between her and her cousin.

Everyone's got to start somewhere... The are "high pressure, high stress, make it or break it days" and you should definatly think long and hard about it... but if you feel capable... go for it!

I was going to say lots about this, but no need to. Listen those who gave their suggestion here, they all are good experienced wedding photographers, and have fun. If you don't have fun, things will look like going wrong. Have fun, everything goes better (but make sure you have full batteries, enough memory with good fast wide lens(s) :)

Well, you're starting off right. Study! Research it. Maybe pick up a book or 2. Make sure you meet with your cousin a time or 2 beforehand to discuss it. Be honest, and make sure you are all on the same page and going into it with the same expectations. Scout out the venue beforehand, try to get some practice in that situation if at all possible. If nothing else, at least try to shoot some at the rehearsal. Make a plan (in writing), try to stick to it, although you might not be able to when it's all happening :-) Keep your head!
