Does anyone use windows Vista?

We are looking at getting a new computer (desktop) for me to work on, but someone told me that PS wasnt compatible with Vista.

How well does Vista work with other programs? I am also getting a wacom tablet and dont want any compatibility issues.

CS3 works fine on Vista, and the tablet works fine as well.

LightRoom wouldn't load at all (the trial version). I'm hoping they get that worked out.

I have Vista and CS2 and Lightroom, and they all work well. The PC will need a grunch of RAM though - as much as you can give it.

I have Vista Home Premium, PSCS3 extended and Lightroom. No problems whatsoever! I have 2gb of RAM on my laptop, works fine. 1.5Gb of RAM on the desktop with XP Pro, works okay, but a bit slower.

If you order a new computer have XP Professional for your OP. Do not use Vista! I order computers for my company and run MIP for accounting ($15K for the software) and the company will not service the software if you use Vista. I've heard other stories that were not good either.

No problems running anything on Vista, CS3, Lightroom, everything else I use perfectly fine. The horror stories are a bit hyped. If you find a company not servicing their own software on certain operating systems, it's an issue with that particular software, not the OS. Photoshop has no issues with Vista.

Anyway, this is an official FAQ from Adobe released at the beginning of 2007, listing all software that officially runs on Vista, unofficially runs on Vista, and is not recommended for Vista. Only the Photoshop that came with CS1 isn't recommended, which I believe is version 8, and there's already someone here saying that PS7 runs fine on Vista so there you go.

I'm sorry, but that's being very alarmist to tell someone not to get Vista because the company that services the accounting software for your company will not work with Vista. That can mean many things... that they are not willing to train their service people with Vista yet... or they made a monster software package that ignored MS programming guidelines and while they backpedal they don't want to tell clients to run in compatability mode with Vista... It might not make or break Vista for gwe21 if JMT won't give tech support for MIP accounting software.

In the real world of under $15k specialized software Vista is doing great. The stories of it not running certain programs have been greatly blown out of proportion and fail to tell the next part of the story: Most older (or otherwise poorly written) programs that had any compatability issues with Vista work great using Vista's compatability mode which emulates XP or most any MS OS you choose going back to the 90's (and compatability mode is easy to use). I use CS3, Cakewalk Sonar4, and Makemusic Finale 2006. Finale had some difficulty with Vista, so I ran it in XP compatability mode and it worked like a charm. If you have unusual software needs like Xuko a quick google search will bring up issues people may have had, or you can just contact the manufacturer. But don't nix Vista just based on someone elses obscure softare needs.

To me, Vista has been far more intuitive and reliable than XP ever was. I'm not saying that you should necessarily get Vista, and no one else here can tell you either, because we don't know your needs or the specific software you might be concerned about. If it's a computer you're using in a work place you should check with the IT people there to see if they will support Vista machines, which is the salient point Xuko indirectly made. If it's for home and for normal consumer software then I imagine you'll really enjoy Vista. Good luck.

I use the entire Adobe CS suite with Vista and all of the programs run fine. I do however receive a known compatibility issue warning when trying to open Acrobat Professional and I hit run program and so far I haven't found any issues with the program.

I haven't had any issues with other programs I've tried to use with it.

I run CS2 and Vista. I love it. I am one of the few people that loves vista and all of its potential features. I bought a tablet PC, so that might have something to do with it.

No problems on my end.

I have had some trouble with PS & vista but have worked it out. Mostly around network printer drivers and vista. Seems that you have to choose a local printer as the default to get it to work. Other than that, it's cherry (knock on wood...).

I'm running CS2 and Vista Premium, and I have had absolutely no issues with it. If there are special devices you wish to run, (I have a TV card manufactured about 2 years before Vista was released), the manufacturer should, by now, have compatible drivers for your device. My entire PC is installed, NO problems, and I upgraded from XP Pro. I had to get a few drivers here and there, but otherwise, no issues. Just get a ton of RAM! I have 2 GB, and if my PC could take it, I'd get more. Lol.

Vista 32-bit works fine with CS3 Extended version.

I also run CS3 on two computers that are both have the Vista OS (one was an upgrade from XP and the other came installed with Vista). The only issues I have had with Vista is HW related, some older HW (scanners and printers) do not have drivers for Vista. After going to the manufacturers websites they have workarounds for most of these issues, in my case the old printer and old scanner are working fine with Vista.

I cannot wait for multi-touch point technology in Vista to become cheap enough so I can get one. Vista was made for the good stuff that is yet to come.

I have had a couple minor glitches, however I had an update the other day that seemed to take care of many of them. I wonder if they are working hard to correct some of the more major issues they were having.

BTW Office 2007 is the bomb. I am a One Note user for life.

Are you talking about Microsoft Surface? That looks like the coolest thing ever.

I've run Vista just fine with CS2, CS3, Lightroom, and PSE 3.0. It gives a warning when starting PSE 3, but then works fine. Vista has been out long enough now that it's hard to find a recent version of any commercial software that won't run on it.

The only problem I've had is I have an older M-Audio sound card that doesn't have Vista drivers.

Just get a lot of memory (2GB or more) and you'll be fine.

i had vista running on my desktop for a while, and CS2 was unstable as a house of cards on it.
rolled back to XP.

I had that same sound card issue. M-Audio Delta series. I thought I read about a work around, but I might be wrong.

what about the 64bit version of vista. just a question that hasn't been asked/answered.

pscs3 and lightroom on 32bit vista home premium works as fine as fine can be for me.

Don't know? My laptop is 64 bit enabled, but everything is 32 bit. Haven't ventured that far yet :)

Bio-Chemical chips are just around the corner, and according to HP the goal is that every 12 year old with a chemistry set will be able to create them. Computers are about to get super cool.

Yep, exactly. There probably is a workaround, but I'm not doing sound recording anymore, so I just gave up and pulled the card out.

Ya, that is what I did as well. There are so many good cheap cards out there that are USB now that I figured if I did some recording I might just get a new one anyway.
