I saw this on the ScreenSavers tonight.

Unfortunately this hack is very well-known and has been publicized on the net for a couple months. Hence, the Creative Muvo2 4GB is nearly impossible to find in-stock anywhere.

Apple's new iPod mini also uses the same Hitachi 4GB drive as the Muvo2, except the firmware in the Apple version doesn't appear to support the "Memory Mode" needed by digital cameras (it only supports "IDE mode"). Somebody tested this IDE-only version of the 4GB microdrive in a Muvo2 and it worked fine... which means that theoretically Creative could switch to the IDE-only version at any time to prevent people from "pillaging" the drive from their MP3 player. Some even theorize that Hitachi might make Creative switch in order to protect the digital camera / PDA market where the 4GB microdrive retails for $499...
