... when you bought your camera did you just buy the body or did you buy it with a lens?

If you bought the lens separately, what did you guys get?

I'm thinking about switching over after learning that my Precious only has one telephoto lens that I can buy. A beat one!

Anyway, been looking thru the threads & am seriously considering the 300D.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks Much!

I bought it on January 2004 in India. I bought it along with the lens Canon 18-55.

Additional lens bought: Tamron 70-300, Macro.

Thanks
Ashish

I bought mine back in Sept 2003. Bought it with the kit lens. Added the Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO Super Macro and the Canon 50mm F1.8 prime. The 50mm is BY FAR my favorite lens. The quality of the shots from this lens is AWESOME and it is great to have a really fast lens. Taking pics in low light was never as much fun. Hardly ever use my flash anymore.

how about the DIGITAL REBEL WIDE & TELE LENS OPTICS KIT
1 Sigma 70-300 DL MACRO SLR Lens For Canon
1 Sigma 28-80 F3.5-5.6 Macro SLR Lens
1 55mm Multi-coted UV Filter
1 58mm Multi-coted UV Filter
1 Lens Cleaning Kit
1 Twin Lens Case
2 Lens Hood
Is it worth getting this & just the body? Or should I get it with a kit that comes with a 18-55mm lens?

With filters you can do away with one size (your biggest thread size) and get step down rings to fit the smaller ones. You might want an ND filter and polarizer as well.

I bought mine with the kit lens which is not a bad lens and it's cheap, I like the wide angle. With it I got a Sigma 70-300mm APO. Later on I added a Tamron AF28-200mm Super Zoom F3.8-5.6 Aspherical XR and the Canon 50mm prime F1.8

I'm finding that I use the prime lens a lot and especially when shooting indoors. I use the tamron quite a bit too. I know I have overlaps but I rarely use the Sigma except when doing macro and when I need a long zoom (rarely).

I'm in a go-slow mode. If I could do this again I think I would consider the 10D. I bought the kit, and added some low-end Canon lenses, 75-300mm III USM 1:4.5-5.6, 50mm 1:2.5 Macro.

I can see in the next year wanting to replace them with some Canon L series lenses. Once you consider the price of nice lenses the price of the camera starts looking a lot smaller.

For now I am happy. I don't really need better equipment as much as I need to learn how to use what I already have.

I bought mine with the kit lens, its not a bad lens. I also added a Canon 75-300 non-usm - its not a good lens but it was cheap (£99). I am awaiting delivery of a 2nd hand Canon 28-80 II usm which I picked up on e-bay for £56. I know this camera is capable of great photos but you really need good quality glass to do it justice. So if you want to get the best out of the 300D you will need some expensive glass.

I got my 300D with an EF-S 18-55. If you can't afford any better quality lenses, it will do its job in the meantime, but it will end up being relegated to dust collector I'd imagine (mine certainly is).

I borrowed a Canon 75-300 USM NON-IS from my dad, which I'm very pleased with. For the money it's cheap and zoomy. Only good for fairly bright conditions (I'm in the dismal UK, remember).

I've recently bought a Sigma 28-70/2.8 EX DF. I'm very pleased with this, and for £225 it's fantastic value. (EX is Sigma's top range.)

I got the kit lens and I'm glad I did. I don't use it all the time, but enough to justify the extra $100. It actually focuses quite close to stuff for semi-macro shot and I'm satisfied with the quality.

I mostly use the 50mm 1.8. Really can't say enough good things about it. And if you get the kit lens and the 50mm 1.8 ($70.00), for another $7.00 or so you can get the coupler to put the 50 reversed on the kit lens for macros. It's almost like getting a third lens for free (almost).

I purchased mine with the kit lens as well. I think for the extra $100 you get quite a good lens. It is not a bad lens for the money. It is soft but then again what lens isn't for that price range? :) Get the kit lens, you wont be sorry.

I also have the 50mm f/1.8 and love it. It's a great lens for those low light indoors shots when you don't want to use your flash. For less than $100.00 (depending on where you buy it) you can't go wrong with this lens.

Currently I am considering the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX. I have also heard really great things about the Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 USM. Check out this portrait session she recently did with this lens.

Hope this information helps!

Oh, yea. The Digital Rebel is a really great camera so don't let other people try and tell you otherwise. Yes, there are more feature filled cameras out there but for the money you play for the Digital Rebel, you are getting a truly great camera! I love mine and am sure you will yours too!

Good Luck!

I picked up my DR in October last year. I also came from an Olympus C5050Z. Never yet regretted the choice. I bought it with the kit lens, which is decent for everyday use. I also picked up the Sigma 70-300mm lens because I like to get close to the action, and I love, love, love this lens. Next purchase (whenever they're back in stock) is the Canon 50mm f/1.8 for dark shots.

Go DR if you can... it's worth it!

...my $0.02 :)

Bought the Rebel with the kit lens and it's a great lens for the money. I also bought the Canon 75-300mm and really like that one as well.

I'm waiting for the 50mm f/1.8 to come in stock and will be adding that as well as a macro lens.

Rooster- if you shop around, you can get the DR with kit lens at or less than the list price of the body alone, which sort of makes your decision easy. Sears and OfficeMax have each had discount promotions of 10% or more that included the Digital Rebel.
