Hey everyone,

I purchased a Canon '50mm' '1.4' USM through POTN about 2 weeks ago. It shipped from Canada a few days later and I have it in my hands as of today. I was pretty pumped to try it out, so I put it on my camera and to my great surprise, there was no AF. I tried messing with settings and got nothing, when I AF it makes a noise as if it tries then quites immediately having no effect on the focus whatsoever. I'm assuming that this is a lens 'issue', has anyone else ever had this problem. I just shot the guy I bought it from a PM, and I'm pretty sure that I can get my money back from either him or through paypal as I paid that way. He has 350+ feedback on ebay with 100%, so I assumed he wouldn't scam me. It wasn't a packing 'issue' either as it was packed very well. Just thought I'd share my 'issue' of the day, I'm not really too upset with the situation, but figured it might interest some people. Hopefully it will work out well. Any advice is welcome.

Thanks,
Ryan

Had no problems with mine, although bought new and NOT from Canada (you know what they do to squirrels there don't ya??)

I would definitely try to get the money back - you never know though - even people with high feedback can sometimes scam or just be unreasonable. How much did you pay?

I paid about $285 shipped and paypalled, so it was a pretty reasonable price.

Maybe not for lack of AF though. :(
Good luck - post how it turns out. If the guy doesn't resolve the 'issue', let me know his ebay username... ;-)

I'd return it. For so little a savings - the lens is $309 at B&H - it is not worth buying from this guy. At B&H or Adorama you get a new lens, warranty, and helpful customer service. Who doesn't want to sleep easy at night? ;-) We live and learn, right?

yeah hopefully I can work it out with the guy to return it, if not I'll have paypal take care of it, supposedly they are pretty good for the buyers.
