I was wondering if anyone had encountered any hardware conflicts or problems connecting a 300D to their computer during installation.

No!

Install the CD Rom with drivers first
Restart the computer power up the camera and hook it up at USB 1.0

On the Mac, OS X, install nothing. Plug in, turn Camera on.

I'm using XP.

I installed the software as per the instructions and at first the computer recognized the camera. Then I got a message saying there may be a problem with the device (camera). Called Canon tech and they got me to load the drivers separately. That was the first call. Then when the computer rebooted still no go. Called again and another guy got me to remove the drivers and turn off things that might cause a conflict, printers and such. Loaded the drivers again and still no luck. The guy tells me it must be a hardware conflict but not sure what it could be. Last off he suggested trying to connect the camera to another computer to see if it would recognize the camera, hence ruling out a camera problem. I tried the camera and downloaded pictures on my own computer using my card reader. So at least it is working in that regard. I'm going to try connecting to another computer in about 5 minutes. Wish me luck.

I always use my card reader, much simpler, just plug it in and xp gives me several options and I always open em in acdsee, simple.
I tried the software that came with the camera and it was rubbish,
Paul.

I plan on using my card reader too but I mainly wanted to be sure it wasn't a camera problem. I have tried connecting on my brother in laws computer and it recognizes it fine. I'll just have to find the problem with my computer now. And I guess I'm going to need camera/computer connectivity for firmware upgrading too.

Windows XP should recognize camera without insalling software. I always use my card reader and burn my pics on a CD before I do anything that could change any files on the card.I learned this after making a BIG mistake and ruining several shots that I could not retake.

You probably have a driver conflict between the card reader and the camera, since I instaled card reader on my PC I'm getting blue screen crashes sometimes!

I have this problem with USB devices on my XP before and the only thing that would resolve the issue is to:
1. Control Panel
2. System
3. Click Hardware Tab
4. Click Device manager
5. Click Universal Serial Bus Controllers
6. Delete all USB controllers

Then XP will start to see all the usb devices connected.

I have had this issues on 1.X devices before.

I had this problem with XP - connected the card reader and it was ok but as soon as I put in the card it produced a blue screen and dump. It is an early card reader (Hama) but this was cured with updated XP drivers from the Hama site, Its been fine since

I bought a card reader for about 15 bucks, opened the package, plugged it into my computer, and the computer found it, liked it, and has never had any problems downloading. Using Windows XP, it is usually very easy to do this sort of thing, because you usually don't have to install any drivers at all.
