So I tried to shoot something in the soft focus entry by doing two things I haven't done. One, shoot a simple subject (like a shed) and make it interesting. Two, soft focus by stretching a black nylon over the lens. btw, I shot it at about 7:00AM.
Well, I shot, and chose this as my best one, and processed it. I upped the warm tones as i was trying for the dreamy style look, like a Thomas Kinkade (not that I'm a fan). Well, I think I overprocessed it and it came out boring to most voters. I was happy w/ the few comments but I was wondering if anyone would offer suggestions as to how to make this better. I've seen tons of very successful barn and shed shots here, and would like to think of ways to make a simple subject pop.
Thanks!
So here was entry:
here is an evened out exposure from RAW:

the biggest problem I see is that you adjusted way too much. Here is a simplified rendering I did in about five minutes. I auto adjusted levels, adjusted brightness/contrast the toyed a bit with color levels. I think you did what I used to do and that is screw with the Post Processing too much when the actual photo dooks much better.

Try to avoid too much PP next time and good luck to you!!! |

I just looked at your standing in the soft focus challenge, while your shot is boring..... you should be 10-15 spots further, as there are that many photos that are not soft at all and yet managed to be voted above 3? |
