Another example.
Viewfinder parallax got me in trouble with a close flower shot. The shot was lit with flash from about 50 cm, hence the dark background. I further darkened it on the revision.

This is a fairly simple edit. Just selected out the dark areas and made them black.
Then selected out the gray areas and accentuated the roughness of the concrete
Finally selected out the lily and made it lighter. All with curves.
Decided on a crop - I'm still not sure that's the final crop but I wanted the crack in
the concrete and the dead lily top in there somewhere.
Put a tiny orange (5 pixel) border and a one inch light gray frame around it.

I had a hard time not entering this into FS or Partners. I know it wouldnt have scored gangbusters but I sure do enjoy looking at it and I am sure the comments would have been high. |

Basically just boosted contrast since the orginal is a bit flat. Not sure I like the edit though.

I edited an image for this thread this morning, and, surprisingly, it turned out so well that I'm going to use it as my free study entry tonight. As a substitution, here's the image that was going to be my free study entry...I have a love/hate relationship with this one. I think it has great potential, but I don't think my editing abilities are quite up to the task.
edit: yanko asked a good question, so I'll answer here...It was a single exposure.

Since I will be busy tomorrow I am going to post today.
That Little Smile Original
That Little Smile Finished
Because of the added layer that gives it that soft diffused look the final version would fit more into the Advanced Editing rules. |

Hi,
I really like the ephemeral B&W as well and the sepia tone does a nice job of softening the image.
I thought I would take a crack at your original and see if a different, not better mind you, just different, approach might suit your fancy. I thought the image seemed a bit over saturated so I tamed it down a bit, did a quick removal of the flash shadow of the cap. I also removed some of the skin blemishes and softened the sheen on her face using a fairly low transparency clone. I also brightened the eyes and teeth. I hope you enjoy. Again, this is not intended to be anything other than an alternate approach.

Basic editing, shot JPG. The color and shadow detail capability of the Fuji S3 that I use has saved a shot for me many times when I didn't have everything set right to capture the moment.
Hi everyone. I just stopped by for a late night hello, and would like to join in for one shot a week if it's ok with everyone. I will try to make some comments each week and spread them around for everyone.

Funny, I also considered a very similar shot for the FS but decided against it. I hate that they stick those things in the most boring places. I was going to change the white background in mine to a different color but never got around to it.
Btw, very nice colors and focus on yours. Tack sharp! I had to get on a short ladder to reach mine. Did you have any trouble getting close to it?
