Super Quickie today:

Over at the fixed focal length side there was already a complaint about the composition. It's an experiment to see if it's unbearable for the eye. Kind of like 12-tone music (to the ear).

I will not be around to post this tomorrow so I thought I would do it today. Here is my Day 04.

I will catch up in the next few days or so. I'm off to Virginia for a week.

Hi,

Well here is my June 3 before and after. The before is also posted in the June fixed focus challenge.

So, here are my entries. I hope you like them. Let me know what you think both plus and minus... especially the negatives.

Before .................. After ................. Second thought after
......

When looking at the first two, I thought I like the before background with the exception of the horrible crease... so I edited out for the "second thought after"

Again, tell me what you think.

Edit #4
Before; After;

Right now, I'm having enormous problems loading and looking at images.
As soon as my computer settles down (someone is coming to look at it soon. I hope)
I'll be commenting more.

I'm stuck on black and white. Can't help it. I'm sure I'll start seeing things in color again soon! lol

This maybe isn't the appropriate place to put this, but we all know each other now, right? Plus, if there's one group of editors that can probably point me in the right direction, it's obviously you guys based on what I've seen so far.

I'm currently using PS Elements 5.o for all editing. I also FINALLY downloaded the update so I can shoot and convert RAW images. Everything I've learned (not that it's a lot) I've figured out on my own by fumbling around with things, and from reading editing steps such as the ones in this challenge. But now i feel like I'm at a roadblock. I'm sure that I can do MUCH more with my current software, but would also consider upgrading.

My real questions is if someone can point me in the direction of a good, easy to follow book or other tool that can help me get to the next level. Something like "How to be an amazing Photo Shop editor in 12 easy steps... for Dummies." My goal is to make existing photos look as great as they can, rather than creating montages and such, if that helps?

If anyone has a suggestion of any kind, I'm open to all!

edited to add: If you want to send me a PM to avoid junking up the thread I check my E-mail regularly. Didn't mean to hijack us!

DAY 4 - What a difference B&W can make!
before challenge entry

I thought I would show my before and after from the Female Portrait challenge. I was playing in PS3 (of course) and discovered what an amazing difference the conversion to b&w made. I wanted to create a middle-eastern type look for the challenge and steer away from her american look. I changed to b&w, adjusted the levels and curves a bit, resized and saved. Simple but effective. Even though I don't judge images on the title, I do put a lot of thought into my titles and thought she seemed angelic and should have an angelic name - hence Samandirieal (the angel of creativity).

I voted on this entry and gave it a very good score as I recall. I think you were right to transform it to B&W, but even the as taken shot is wonderful. I still find it curious how her scarf disappears into the texture of the background. Very nice indeed.

Hey there gals and guys. I just wanted to thank you all for allowing me to actually have a lot of fun during this side challenge. I enjoy using some of my older treasures and combining them with other things, using new techniques (for me), and just letting the creativity and fun win big time.

I see that I have forgotten to post my teacher pictures. Sometimes it is only possible to take pictures of wonderful people in unfortunate places. I never let that stand in my way.

Before ...................After

The new background is a photo I took in NE Iowa. I duplicate the layer, and applied Gausian blur. The I applied a gradient mask to allow the forground of the background to be sharp. Oh yes, and another case of opening eyes. In this case, Steves open eyes were pilfered from Rosie, the teacher on image left.
