Sorry, I've fallen behind on both the photos and commeting. I just haven't had time lately. Although it seems most of you guys are just pulling out old photos now. Cheaters! :P

hey - if they are old photos but the post processing was done in June, that should count. :)

Ok, I fell behind already, I've been in a funk. Just haven't felt like shooting, but I went out & took some shots yesterday & edited a few from our Memorial Day party.

Here is my June 6 offering.

I caught these boys as we were out looking for partners and is part of a fixed focus length side challenge here. I didn't find partners, but I did find these boys. I hope you appreciate the original, an my optional after shots. Please let me know which of them you like, if any, and offer alternate approaches to tweak this shot.

This took the before picture as part of a fixed focus June challenge. The after was intended to realize some of the suggestions. I hope you enjoy and will give me some guidance on where I went wrong.

ArggH I'm SO behind.
I'll admit, these are old images. BUT, I'm using new editing techniques, some of which I've learned from your images this month. I wish I had the time to go back and retouch every photo I've taken in the past couple of years! These were both taken with my trusty waterproof Olympus P&S! :-)

DAY 7

I know I know.. I like the whole scarf/wrap thing and I tend to do a lot of them. Again, black and white works best here and I blew out the contrast for a high-key effect.

I have a couple questions. I have seen on this side challenge everything from âthis is a nice improvementâ to â How the hell did this become thisâ. I purchased CS3 because Adobe had a good deal on upgrading from Elements4. But right now I feel like I bought a backhoe to drive to the local convenience store. So my questions areâ¦
How did you learn how to do what you do?
A) Take a coarse at school.
B) Read boring techey books.
C) Just start playing with it to learn what it can do.

How do you approach getting your results in possessing.?
A) Know what you want to accomplish, do this-this-and this, just like riding a bike.
B)Know what you want to do but have to research or review notes on how to do it.
C) Just play around, and somehow by trial and error come out with something that you like..

I also visit EVERY link that is posted here on DPC to tutorials and go do them and learn everything I can. Here is a good link that teaches you the basics to do quite a few different things plus a couple of advanced things: Janee's Tutorials

ETA: There are also a TON of tutorials Here on DPC

Enjoy :)

I too have reached the limits of the iPhoto 08 that I normally use for editing, which only has "basic" global adjustments like levels, shadows/highlights ect. I am now finding that I want to selectively edit things to get more light on parts of the image and do the more complex things that would make my images much more interesting to see.
I just see the camera file image, and try to think what adjustment would be needed to make it into something worth looking at. The main thing is to get the original shot right to begin with. You can save a lot of good moments that didn't get captured right with some good or creative editing.
I also go back now to my older images, and re-edit a few a week. That helps me to see how my skills are progressing, and encourages me to learn more.
I learned most of my shooting skills in the days of film and everything manual, and most of how to see a good finished image from here at DPC. ( Thank you DPC'ers)

Well, another treat of my kids :) Only 2 more to go :)

ETA: I refuse to pay for cookie cutter school photos, so I do them myself over the summer. Hence the 8x10 crops :)
