Going to try it right now, as it's something I've been meaning to try to learn. I'll let you know how it goes, because if *I* can make it work, anyone can! :) |

They could have taken the .zip off for ya, and you spelled minimise wrong. It should be minimize, but other than that it's a great tut for those that don't know how. Good work Roz.

Depends on whether you speak real English or that weird American English ;)

Cool, Roz. I only glanced at it for now. I assume it will teach us how to be as creative as you are? :-)

Nice tutorial, but I would have liked to see a side-by-side of the original vs edited version. |

Thanks, Roz! To think I tried to do this without any guidance at all. Typical guy I guess. I'm having fun now...

Thanks, Roz! I will go over that again when I have more time.
One thing... I would like to have a 'finished product' shot to view... or maybe I missed that??
Thanks bunches for doing that for us! |

this tutorial was meant only as a guide to show how to incorporate a texture/overlay into another photograph ..
it wasnt meant to show a before and after ..
thought i'd clarify that after seeing a couple of the comments .. i hadnt been back to this thread coz there hadnt been any activity, so i only noticed now ..
i just hope its helpful and please dont hesitate to ask if you have any more questions .. :)

Hi Roz, the tutorial is very good, thank you for being so detailed with all the steps. I do agree however that it would have been nice to have seen a finished photo. It left an otherwise professional quality tutorial feeling unfinished. Still a great tutorial! You do lovely macro work. |

I wish it showed some kind of finished product. Since I am new to the whole "overlays" thing.

Thanks Roz for a great tutorial. Now, I have a "still learning" question concerning use of overlays. Are they allowed in "advanced" editing? I can't seem to find an answer looking through past forums. If the answer is there, just point me in the right direction. I have learned so much from this site, especially reading through the forums and using the tutorials. Thanks for any help for a slow learner. |

Great tutorial Roz! For those of you who are making do with PSE like me especially an older version, (I hear PSE 9 finally has layer masks!) Anyway I have found a way around it, I thought I would share:
Once layering your texture over your photo and selecting your layer style, instead of masking over areas where you don't want the texture, simply use the eraser tool, on around %30 opacity, to erase the parts of the texture you don't want to show, like on a persons face. You simply scrub away with the brush size of your choice, until the texture is the way you want it. It is a lot more limited than layer masks, but it works fairly well. I can't wait to use all the new textures you gave us the link to, great collection!

Can we use commercial textures in our submissions, or do we need to have taken the photo of the texture ourselves? |
