I can view the comments, but I don't know how to answer them? Can someone please help.

Thanks.

You cannot 'respond' to a comment left on your image. The best way to do that is to PM the person who left you a comment. Some folks prefer to leave responding to challenge comments until after voting is over. I think it's a personal preference.

tfaust is right that the best way to respond to a comment left on your entry is to send a Private Message. But the idea of waiting until voting is over should be thought of as more than a mere personal preference. It goes straight to one of the most basic elements of the challenges, that we vote on the entries without knowing who submitted them. PM'ing between the commenter and the photographer is a device that can be used to influence the outcome. Taking away anonymity undermines the integrity of the challenge, and not just for the two people directly involved but for all of us. So please resist the temptation and wait until the voting closes. It's not much of a price to pay to help keep the competition on a high level.

Once the voting is completed, the comments area becomes exactly like a forum thread. You will be able to quote/reply to comments, format the answer, incorporate links to other photos, etc.

However, those comments then become part of the permanent record. If you want a more ephemeral communication, then use the PM as suggested. It is generally recommended to wait until after the voting to respond, although I will sometimes answer a direct request for specific information while the challenge is still open.

GeneralE makes a good point about being able to quote/reply once a challenge is over, but unlike the forums, the person you are replying to might not ever go back to your photo and see your comment that might be directed to them.
