I'm wanting to expand the lenses I currently have for my camera (EVOLT E500) and am looking for suggestions. I have about $600 to spend, so nothing too expensive please! I usually do more nature photography than portraits, but am hoping to have my own little business sometime in the future.
Please help me! |

My suggestion is that you send me the money so I can get a new lens! :P |

The 11-22mm zuiko lens is AMAZING for nature and landscape work. Although I believe its about $750. although if you shop around you might be able to get one used.
its a top notch wide angle. |

Take a look at briantammy's profile. He's using the same camera that you are and I recently noticed that he's using some older Minolta lens. Many of these can be picked up at fairly low prices in the used market (eBay) and they're FAST, i.e. F1.2, F1.7...
Not sure what he's using for a converter. Could be worth sending him a PM.

I recently got the 70-300 mm lens and love it. If you are into nature photography, it could be exactly what you need and I got it for about $350. |

Which company makes that lens?
OK, this is the one I think.
70-300mm Olympus Standard lens

So lets say I wanted to look for a lens that was not made by Olympus...what would I need to look for in that case?? |

That's a question I would like answered too. I've been looking at Sigmas and Tamrons but nothing hits me atm. I'm looking for a long lens that I could use for portraits as well. 50-300-ish sounds good. I hesitate when it comes to standard quality lens from Oly. I bought the Oly High Grade 14-54 f2.8-3.5 and the quality is amazing compared to the kit lens.

Like you I was on a reduced budget! I purchased the 70-300. I enjoy nature as well and I really enjoy the lens. Also came in handy when I was the second camera at a wedding, taking shots from the balcony! (Need a tripod for the really long shots!)
Good luck! |

I have a couple lens from my old Olympus OM10 that I use once in awhile. I bought the adapter on Ebay. |

The Zuiko (Olympus) 70-300mm would also be my suggestion! You can use it for birds, for close-ups of flowers, etc. As the E-500 does not Image stabilization, you may want to invest into a tripod, too! This lens is not very fast, but a great value for money!
Another idea are the Sigma 150mm macro lens - I've heard good things about it, but don't own it. The 105mm macro lens is a nice one, too! But I don't know about the price level where you live!
My personal favourite toy is the Zuiko 8mm fisheye. You can shoot unique pictures, but that may be a lens for later on...
Have fun choosing the right one! |

I did and thought those Minolta lenses were/are old film camera lenses. You think they are? |

Sure those are old lenses from film age. You will need an adapter, you will need to focus manually, but that can allow you to use many fine lenses for a bargain. |

What makes it such a good lens? Sorry, I'm still pretty new to the cameras and all that good stuff |
