DPC can be harsh at times, but this group on Flickr is absolutely vicious, judging from the description and some comments I read on a (previously) highly praised image that led me to it.

Some high points from the description of DEL*TE me! uncensored

----------------------------------
How it Works:
Show us the best of your best: those striking, unique, incredible images that represent your idea of photographic greatness. The group will critique your shot, voting for it to be saved or deleted. Ten âdeleteâ votes and your image is dropped from the pool. Ten âsaveâ votes and your image is eligible for transportation to an afterlife reserved for only the most deserving photographs: The Folio.

Voting:
Look through the stream. If you see a photograph that strikes you as imperfect, bland, or otherwise lacking greatness, sharpen your knives. Post a comment on the photograph indicating why it sucks, and conclude the comment with an indication of your vote to delete. Constructive criticism is highly encouraged. So is biting wit. Your post might look something like this:

âThis piece of curdled crap is badly cropped, poorly lit, and utterly devoid of redeeming qualities. Delete from the Delete Me Uncensored group.â

Then check the tags to the right. If you are the first to vote the photo down, add the tag âdelete.â If someone else has already added that tag, you should add one that follows it, labeled in numerical order: âdelete,â âdelete2,â âdelete3,â and so on. If there are already ten deletes, the beast is on its last legs anyway and you donât need to vote on it.

The procedure is the same for a photo that thrills, stuns, and delights you: post a comment about why it deserves to live forever, and tag it with âsave,â or âsave2,â âsave3,â and so on.

Above all, enjoy yourself, donât hold back, and remember, your sucky photographs donât necessarily make you any less of a human being. Bombs away.

--------------------------------------------

But, on the positive side, someone is required to leave a comment to go with a poor vote!

Yes, but they openly solicit the abuse and those submitting know what they're up against going in......

Sometimes the comments on this site are just downright childish and mean with no apparent provocation.

BIG difference!

Except as with this site or any site, you could have an 8 year old with a vendetta trying to get a rouse out of you and not an actual adult with some experience in the field giving a valid critique.

Looking through some of the pictures, even highly rated ones, I've seen this and scratched my head. I remember a couple years ago when the site was new all the photo's would get really good constructive criticism like my very first entry ever- . The comments I received on it actually helped me. That Pentax was my very first camera, and honestly I sucked at taking pictures. I had some good ideas for pictures, but no idea about composition, DoF, and other distracting things that might 'end' up in a picture.

But now since I've rejoined, I have seen some commenter's comments that are just mean. But then looking at their profile they either have never entered a challenge, or their average rating is in the low 4's so they end up tearing down what other people do.

There are some new amazing photographers on here though since I've last been around, and I'm happy to be back within the photography world. And I do like this new community here.
