Hello, i recently bought a Sigma EF-500 DG ST External flash for my Nikon D70 but for some reason it doesnt seem to work. When i bought it i was told it was compatible with the D70.
I used this set up:
Menu -> Pencil -> Flash Mode -> Commander Mode -> TTL
I tried all the camera modes but nothing seems to work, and my firmware is 2.0 . Am i doing something wrong? Or is this flash not compatible with the D70?
Any help appreciated. Thanks

I have one for my Canon's, though can't remember what paperwork came with it to confirm it was a Canon specific model.
Is yours deffinately for Nikon? Could it be a Canon one by mistake? |

hi aiko
i know i'm replying to an old post but i just found your post. i have also experienced your problem with the same flash & camera combination.
i am also having some trouble with the sigma 18-200mm lens on my d70, especially with exposures - when i open up to let in more light, i get darker results....
i'm just wondering if you ever overcame your problem and what you learned? i have just ordered a nikon 18-200mm lens & the nikon sb600 flash and i've decided to always buy same make products in future.
hopefully with a nikon camera, nikon lens & nikon flash, i won't have these problems... |

You'd have to explain your issue with the lens more fully... but from the sounds of it, there isn't any reason why that should be an issue unless the lens has a defect or is malfunctioning.
Can you describe the issue in more detail? Does the issue occur when you use the lens on its own, or only with the flash? Are you using TTL or manual settings on the flash and for exposure? |

hi,
the issue with the lens happens on manual exposure mode. when a pic is too dark and i want to let in more light & i open up the aperture or slow down the shutter the exposure either remains unchanged or darkens! i can open 3 stops and the pic won't lighten.
often, usually on the long zoom, the lens refuses to focus.
the issue with the flash happens with other lenses as well as with the sigma lens. the flash fires ok but the exposure of the pics varies considerably. i can take pics of the same person, from the same distance, on the same settings & get a range of results - some ok exposure, some over-exposed but mostly under-exposed.
if you can shed any light, i'd appreciate it.
thanks, wilbur |
