Thanks to everyone and particularly Ecce Signum for their comments on my FS entry, a huge PB for me:

Last month, I handed over my original to you all to see how you would edit it differently. Although I did considerably better this month (1.8 higher :-) ) I'd like to do the same, as it would teach me and others new ways of editing that will stand us in good stead in the future.

An original (well a default conversion to JPEG from RAW) is here (warning takes a while to download) if you want to have a go. I'm very keen to learn from all :-)

I think you've done a great job with the bird, but I find the background distracting. Seems to be edging on the neon side of green and is a bit unnatural. I'd play with that color a bit to find something that looked more natural while complementing the bird so that he pops. Seriously though, great capture. I haven't gotten eyes to look that good yet, and the detail in the feathers is great.

From the original I started with Shadow/Highlight to obviously brighten the image as a whole. I masked to separate the background from the eagle, and then I mainly played with the colors in Selective Color and Hue/Saturation. After bringing the whites to a truer white, I Dodged the highlights and then Burned the darker feathers.

Nice image :O)

I used a bunch of curves to brighten things up, and then used a B&W layer to selectively desat tones (and knock down the background).

Nice image, congrats! My processing steps are with the image. I went with a version that was closer to the original, except for fixing the brightness and contrast.

Although I think you did a great job of processing, and no one can beat Art's attempt, I did one too. Thanks for the opportunity to play with a good picture.

notes on the picture. it shows a bit darker here than on my monitor.
