Just as the subject says...can you overuse a theme? I realize that some shots work for certain themes and some just don't.

I got a shot today that I personally liked. But I seem to like using this theme alot more than just regular photos.

Here is the pic from today:

Here are a couple of other shots I've taken using this theme:

Am I overdoing it with this theme?

Thanks alot for the quick reply. It doesn't work with everything, but these came out the best of the bunch so far.

You should start participating in the challenges already! Overusing a theme or having your own style? I personally think you'll get far with those kind of shots. Hope to see you in a challenge soon! :D

Edit: took out the photos from the quote

So, exactly what theme are you talking about? The sepia? or something else. I really like the photos and you should take lots of shots of what you like. I have some favorite places I go to and I take many of the same shots but there are subtle yet significant differences. I have been using black and white and sepia a lot in my images because it really emphasizes the composition, shapes and details in an image.

Someone posted a great link earlier - I wish I bookmarked it. The author of a tutorial about "photographers that stand out" said that, as an editor, he looks for photographers who go with themes and who have a distinct look in their work/portfolio.

Regardless of that advice though, your photos are stunning. I wouldn't change a thing.

Just the overall tone of the image. I guess some would argue that it's boring because of the same color throughout the entire photo.

In most of the books I've read they have said to pick a theme and stick to it. I guess that's what I am more or less trying to do.

I really appreciate all the comments though, they are awfully helpful when taking new pics.

It's more of a style than a theme and most people develop one eventually. I use a lot of duo, tri, and quadtones in my images also. It's whatever you enjoy most.

Basically I apply a very, very slight Gaussian blur, adjust brightness and conrtrast to fit with the shot, then in an adjustment layer I adjust the hue, saturation, etc... there.

Thanks ALOT for the comments.
