Here are the Most popular DSLR lenses
arranged them in three categories - Canon, Nikon and Other based on popularity.
How do you think of this list? What's your favorite DSLR lense? is it on the top line? |

my favorite is my 50mm 1.8.
Although my 70-300 is awesome on my camera.
The 105mm VR I have is good as well, but I don't know how to use it effectivly yet. |

Note: The most popular three DSLR lenses mentioned were the Nikon 50mm f/1.8, the Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 and the Canon 24-105mm f/4.
The Nikon 50mm f/1.8 is the most popular, I assume in part because of its low price.
Btw, I'm not questioning the results, but where did these figures come from?

All of mine are my favorites that's why I bought them. I just don't use them.

i think the list is close, but it really depends on the parameters:
consumers, professionals, or both?
most popular of all time, or past 3 years (that's how old the 24-105L is)?
popular = most sales, most well liked, highest image quality, or other?
edit to add - I'd be willing to bet that the canon cheapo kit lens is it's highest selling lens by a long shot

Is this a measure of popularity based on the # of owners listed on dpc? Not clear on what is being shown here, or if you are just fishing for clicks to your site. |

So the Nikon 50mm 1.8D is more popular then the 50mm 1.4D?
Does that make it a better lens?
Is that their Favorite one or is it that has multitude of buyers.
What determines popularity in that poll? |

My favourite changes:
Tamron 90mm macro
Canon EF-S 10-22
Canon EF 100-400
Canon EF 50mm 1.8
The Tamron and the 100-400 didn't make the top 10. It all depends on what you're shooting.

Most popular is always a messy and subjective idea.
However, the title of the thread is "What's *my* favorite DSLR lens", and since I can only answer that based on lenses I've used I can answer that easily enough.
My favorite lens is the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di Blah Blah.
Not only is it incredibly versatile, but the quality for a "budget" lens is unmatched, hands down. It feels balanced, the build quality is sublime for the price, it's fast, and it just about never comes off my camera.
Just an all around winner.
Now, were I to one day pick up a DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 or a DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 or the 77mm f/1.9, then we might have a fight on my hands. |

mmm 18-200mm Nikkor mmm, so very nice for an all in one. It was actually the force that lured me to the dark side in the first place, hehehe. |

It's a good list-
I loved my 17-55 2.8 IS ans still use it alot, but an L lens has a look to it...so the 24-70 has been my main lens of late.
I got a 70-200 F4 a while back as backup/walkaround use (much lighter than the 2.8 IS version) and I used it a good but last week - wow, what a great lens!
My 10-22 is tons of fun and won't flare easily. I use it a lot.
Interesting that all the 50s are on the list :D I had the 1.8 and didn't like it at all, but the 1.2 has that L magic to it. I know many people with 85 1.2 and they all rave about it. I find my 85 1.8 to be a tad long so I've not stepped up to the 1.2 version.

I don't post any of my shots on this site other than for challenges, but I own the 16-50 and the 77 and love them both. I actually prefer the 77 and the older SMC-F50 1.7 over all of my lenses. Those two get the most duty by far. The 16-50 is a big heavy beast, but the image quality is wow. I've held the 50-135 and am not so sure I would want to take that on a trip. Personally, my trip lenses consist of the 16-50, 50, and 77. I know the 50 seems redundant, but damn, that little old lens kicks some serious @ss.(f/8 is the definitive sweet spot if you're looking for sharpness in the entire frame) Plus, what does it tell you when that lens still sells for $130-160 on Ebay, used? My August free study (a landscape) will be represented with that lens. My next lens rental to try out will be the 31 Limited. If it's tits up like every reviewer says it is, that will likely be my next purchase. I don't like the 50-200 - image quality sucks. And the Sigma 10-20 is just too soft deep inside the edges. What's the point in cropping down half of your picture to get some sharpness? And that's virtually through the entire range at f/8! I'm surprised with the 18-55 kit. With a tripod and some stoppage, that thing actually turns out some fairly decent shots. I only use it every now and then to try and get my shots with it ranked high under the lens "owner" page. ;-) I believe I just shot my Doors entry with it too. |

Mines the Nikon 18-200. Great lens for all that convenience, IMHO.
I see Canon finally caught on! Too bad they didn't do that 14 months ago when I jumped ship for Nikon because of the 18-200! |
