Hey everyone,
I just recently got my site back up and running, only to find that I am disappointed with Freewebs. I payed $20 for a year and freewebs is down quite often (the site editing service that is).
They only gave me 100mb of storage and only 1gb of bandwidth. Neither of those are working out too well for me. I'm thinking about transferring to godaddy, they seem to be reputable.
I can get 10gb of storage, a transfer, and 300gb of bandwith for $50/year. I just want to know if anyone has suggestions about it. Mostly suggest otherwise if you have had issues with godaddy. I'm also interested in how the user interface for the site works. Is it easy to use, so that I can link my site together correctly? Appreciate any and all responses in advance.
Thanks,
Ryan

I have my domain name through Go Daddy and my site through LunarPages. Lunarpages is awesome and easy on the pocket....definitely worth checking out.

I've been with lunarpages for a few years. I have no complaints when they're up and running, but I'm not too happy with the frequency of downtime along with the relative lack of communication and notification when things go wrong.

I've always been pleased with GoDaddy - easy to use and the price is right! I use their webhosting with Wordpress on top and the few minor problems I've had they've been able to help right away. (Always my error, never theirs.)
I'd highly recommend GoDaddy for web hosting; I'd also highly recommend Wordpress as an easy to use site builder and administration program (free). |

thanks, I have transferred to Go Daddy, the only problem was that I had gotten the other website through freewebs less than 60 days ago, and they have some thing where they have to wait 60 days, so when the 60 days is up it will be transferred, hopefully freewebs will sustain the site until then

I'm convinced that it's all the luck of the draw. Regardless of which host you choose, some servers within the same company seem to be more robust than others. I'm with two hosts at the moment, but have found that LunarPages gives me the best uptime and support service. I'll probably move all my sites over to them. |

I took Judi's advice and signed on to Lunarpages about six months ago. Couldn't be happier. They do everything I need and all my issues have been resolved quickly. I'm currently hosting two domains through them and they run great.
My one domain is in my sig if you want to check it out.

I've been back and forth with Lunarpages support regarding PHP permission and GD library issues for the past few days. I can't imagine how frustrating it would've been for people without a tech background to even know how to ask them why their stuff wasn't working. Again I have no problems with them when things are up, but I don't like it when things break like this. Nor do I like it when they do PHP and server configuration changes without notifying their clients.

I use lunarpages too and here is a hint to save some $$$ sign up all the way to the payment then don't go through with the payment and in a couple of days you will be sent a money off voucher to join and I saved $30 on a 2 year deal. I use the share server option which can be a little slow but it has been up 100% of the time I have been using it.... just over 6 months now.

I've been extremely happy with HostMonster.com. I have four domains hosted there and have had only one issue over the past year that they cleared up quickly. I wrote a small blog entry about them when I switched. |

I'm another fan of LunarPages. I've used probably 4 or 5 hosts over the years and their uptime and responsiveness have been consistently good at a reasonable price. In my experience no one is all that keen about letting you know when they are about to change something which could affect your site, but they have done it a couple of times so they get brownie points for being more proactive than most. |
