This is WAY too funny. Ok. So I leave the comment "great" on your next challenge entry, or "good job"; does that tell you what score I gave you? Does it say what I really think about your image from a like/dislike perspective? No.

Do I plan on doing a lot of smilies in the future? No. It was something done on a whim and it's not so out of place that many people can figure it out. :-D means good and :-[ is the opposite. Emoticons are an integrated part of communication in the 21st century. Just like how I feel about this conversation - ROFLMAO! :-P

I am not a big fan of the "great" comments either. Emoticons are part of the dumbing down of society, not (a vital) part of communications in the 21st century. I may use them occasionally to show that something I am saying is a joke or to otherwise add a mood to text which does not allow for tone, other than that they are useless.

I am glad that I was able to put a little humour into your day. I apologize completely for stating my opinion, I should have known better. (bows down in the presence of greatness...)

Hey! I didn't use that one. :-) I look forward to seeing which entry was yours after the challenge. I'll be happy to provide more details then. Ok?

Fair enough. I may get a :-O then, huh?

Before WWIII sets in here over a few emoticons, which by the way, I don't feel necessarily dumb down society as doing these challenges have already accomplished that much! *grin, wink* (just so as not to seem dumbed down here) But, let me try to put this into a bit of perspective here.

Who else but, DPC challenge entrants would paint our family members faces, break eggs, take pictures of our own legs on the loo, pants down, spend hours to carve out loaves of bread, paint faces on popscicle sticks, clear out entire rooms to set up backdrops, make elaborate clamps and support devices to hang subjects in light/water/air to photograph it, dress up our dogs, hamsters and cats, and spend inordinate amounts of time, thought, energy and possibly a fair deal of money....all to get a photograph for a virtual ribbon that really means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, THEN, BICKER over a score or comment on forums like this as though this was our career at stake?!

I think we've all had comments on photos that have made us want to throw something at a wall. We've all scratched our heads at the judgement on some commenters. We've had some that have been truly helpful, some extremely angering, some destructive, some that are just plain cute and friendly, and others that are just plain funny. Then, of course, we've had the photos where no one has taken time to comment at all and we've gotten upset over that fact.

So, let me ask WHY this particular one would be one to tick someone off enough by comparison to some of the dumbest comments that I've seen?

At worst, it was shoulder shrugger. By comparison to some of the more aggravating comments, this was a smiler.

Let's get over it now. Aren't our scores enough to be upset over already? *grin*

Congrats!!

We complain about the 5 ranges and want to get out of them and into the 6's or at least, the upper 5's but, somehow, when we're sitting in the less than average 4 ranges, that 5 seems mighty relieving, doesn't it? Kind of like regaining a bit of respectability, isn't it?

I know...I've been there in many a challenge!

Keep climbin'! Fingers crossed for ya!

Good for you, Basssman! Doesn't seem like your score is a bummer! *smile*

Thank you. :) It was doing really well at one point but then dropped down. Not ribbonworthy but I like it. :)

How are you doing?

Some folks are either holding out on their super high scores, or I might finally be in the running for my first ribbon. (hoping for the latter, of course ;-) It was floating around 6.8 for a while before coming down to reality.

Congrats and good luck!

As for me, I'm just enjoying a fave on a low-scoring shot. :)

Still an OK score...but then I'm happy whenever I score over a 5.

Congrats Josh, I think you will be in the ribbons with that score. However I know I won't be, but it is still a nice score. :)

Don't be so sure...from what everyone has reported, this could be pretty high up there.

For God's sake, I went from 6 down to 5.89 today! In the last hour, I've dropped by a major load. The people who come and lower their votes by half in the last 2 hours drive me crazy! If they think the competition is so fierce then they should bloody well improve their pics rather than last-minute cut their votes from 6s and 7s to 2s.

Josh, I look forward to seeing your pic on the front page in about 15 minutes! congrats in advance. :)

Damn...sorry Josh, 4th sucks. been there. :( but it is a great shot and you should be very happy with it.

Thanks for the consolation. I kinda thought ~6.4 wasn't going to be good enough. It's hard to catch children at the right moment PLUS have everything else going for you. Oh well, at least our DPCO team should place well for that week.
