It's interesting (to me!) that in fact until relatively recently I do not have that many of this type of shot at all. In fact, previously I went out of my wway to avoid people in any of my shots. I have quite a lot from my recent trips, (as yet unprocessed!), so I may, on days when I'm not able to shoot (October can be pretty yucky up here) use some of the trip ones to as a substitute.

Here are some guidelines I'm suggesting for this side challenge:
1. Describe your shooting strategy. Did you shoot from the hip, were you hidden in the bushes, did you pretend to shoot something else? I think these strategies will be the most insightful and helpful thing we can share in our attempts to get better candid shots on the street. Include them in you image description when you can.
2. Post your shooting settings. This is such a huge help to amateurs like me, and in a challenge like this where you're shooting more or less spontaneously with little or no time to compose, I think it's that much more important.
3. Comment. Comments should be as candid as the subject matter at hand. Of course they should also be encouraging and courteous. If you can't post as much as you would have liked, or decide to give up halfway through the month, at least come back to leave comments.
4. Have Fun! Post what you can, when you can, and don't take anything too seriously.
The more the merrier, and there's still time to join, so let me know.
More later...

Ok, I'll be in the Washington, DC suburbs - if I manage to get elsewhere I post it with the image - there may be a couple of trips in the works this month.

25 and a half hours to go. It would be great to have twenty names (I'm a math guy). Anyone else?

Oh. I hadn't thought of hiding in the bushes... This is beginning to sound very dangerous. |

It's certainly not a requirement. Whatever works for you and gets you the shot! |

Sign me up, please, though note I'll be travelling in October and may have to upload late, especially near the end of the month.

As for location - Germany. Primarily Wiesbaden, Hochheim, Mainz, and/or Frankfurt. |

No, I think bushes are a great idea - better than getting a blue rinse and donning pastel rompers to look like a tourist. |

I suck at it and don't see much street stuff worthy of an image, out here in suburbia but I'll surely keep my eye on this group. Have fun! |

PS: forgot to add: New York City (yes, another one).
EDIT: though mine are usually in color. :-D

I have a suggestion stolen borrowed from another side challenge - try to make three comments for every shot you upload.
And let's see if we can really help each other out. I'll tend to like a lot of my shots that really aren't worth their weight in pixels, so I need to know what appeals to folks, what doesn't, and if at all possible, why. I fully realizing that everyone may see things quite differently but good, honest feedback might help me refine a) what I shoot, and b) what I choose to post, thereby saving you from seeing too much crap. :-) |

It's hard to say what is crap and what isn't: I tend to look for something that speaks to me and ignore the photographic polish, although I very much appreciate composition, lighting and felicitous juxtapositions. One person's trash is another's treasure. |

Yep. You said it much better than I did. |

Great idea, Deb! I also tried to get some others to sign up just to browse images and beef up comments; see this thread. |
