| Hi everyone, i just bought a mamiya c220 and was using a roll of Fuji Velvia 50 on it but i wasnt sure how many exposures it can take. Im pretty new at medium format film so I was searching on it and ive read that it depends on the size of the picture you want? 6 x 6 =12 exposures 6 x 4.5 =16 exposures and so on... but then i read that it depends on the camera you have, which only has 1 format (eg. 6x6 only) so im confused. i shot up to 12 exposures so far and the number dial on my mamiya has a red 12 while the rest of the numbers are black, so im guessing this is the max number of photos i can take with the film? but when i try to advance the film the lever locks and im afraid to fire the shutter in case of ruining the film. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advanced. |

It looks like your camera can use both 120 and 220 film. The difference between the two is
- 220 is twice as long, giving you twice as many exposures
- 120 has paper backing, 220 doesn't, which means that you have to set the camera to know what's in it - this will usually move the backing plate forward or backward slightly to make sure the right part of the film is on the focal plane.
Velvia 50 is available in both 120 and 220 sizes.
If you put a roll of 120 film in, then you'll get 12 exposures (based on 6x6 which is what your camera produces). If you put a roll of 220 film in, then you'll get 24 exposures (6x6).

awesome camera! i'm looking for a used mamiya afd myself and am pretty excited about start using MF film. could you post some scanned results when you have them please?
