Is there a way to take a raw photo imported into lightroom and export it so that it meets the challenge size requirements, or is it necessary to use photoshop as well? If you can, can someone walk me through the steps. I've figured out how to resize the dimensions, but can't figure out how to limit the size to 150kb.

Thanks

Marty

Hmmm, I don't believe the Jpg quality slider will give an estimate on the file size.

Not that I can figure out. I've looked for plugins as well. Sure would be nice!

Furthermore, when I edit in photoshop and try and save for the web, I get a warning that the file is too big. Is this a problem or should I just ignore the warning?

I've done it, but just had to do trial and error. There's no "maximum" KB size setting unfortunately.

I use between 65 and 75 percent depending on the image. It's by guess and by golly though. Just have explorer open at the end of the export so you can easily check the file size.

Same here - I use about 70% and if it's too big I just re-export.

In PS, before you do a save for web, resize the image to max 640 (or whatever the challenge calls for) (on the edit menu) then do the save. I find that PS does a better quality save than LR for some reason though. Also, in the PS save for web dialog, you can specify a max size and it will adjust the quality to match.

With PS save for web and the optimize for file size you can get away with a much higher quality percentage than you can out of LR.

I do it the same way!
However, on a "busy" photo that would end up in more kb than a minimalistic one, 'save for web' in photoshop gives a better quality.

Thanks, I've always used the photoshop routine in the past and was just hoping I could do it all from Lightroom. It would be nice if a plugin becomes available.

It is easy to do, you just have to check your file size after you export to be sure you are under the limits.

When you export, in the "file settings" section set it to around 75 or so (this number is what you will change to get into the limits)

Under "output", check the box for image resizing and enter the size limits (640 or 720 depending on the challenge)

Export (I usually save it on the desktop) and then go to the file and right click on it, click on properties in the box that pops up and see what size the file is.

If the file is too large, lower the 75, or if it is too small I increase above 75.
