I've handed out my oversized prize cheque to the correct guesser - SMILE!
Very cool - love the guesses - adds to the weeks watching!
Edit - to add - this is an IMAGINARY oversized prize cheque - no real money will leave my hands, and if you could the $AUS exchange rate these days you'd understand why - GRIN!

So we think if we made it too hard to guess we're penalized?
So we think if we made it too easy to guess we;re penalized?
ROFL - Isn't that called a win-win situation?
Or am I not getting it ;-) |

I'm being penalized because I submitted an entry that I don't even care for too much myself! It's not a shoehorn or a macro that anyone can guess; it's just not very attractive. I have to learn to just let it go if I don't succeed in getting a nice shot before entry deadlines. |

I couldn't help but get mad over such a daft comment....but at least both of us aren't fizzing away over it. I'll maybe see the funny side if my score climbs outta the 3 gutter :P |
How can you say the comment was daft? This is a puzzle macro challenge and the goal was to try to photograph something so that we would find it difficult to recognize. Why are you dissing those that are at least trying and participating in the fun by guessing what your shot was? I don't get it? :)
We should be a wee bit more tolerant of those taking the time to comment on our images and in this challenge especially, taking the extra time to guess what we photographed. :)

So far:
You have rated 43 of 262 images (16%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 43 of 262 images (16%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.4651
Hard work to guess them all, some are tough nuts (and probably I'm still wrong half the time...)
Also glad some like my shot:

bigger, picture, people, think bigger picture when guessing!
it's about 50/50 right/wrong (or just not enough info to make it right)

Well, 0/8 on the guesses and the guesses are WAY off. Not the score I was hoping for, but this is really fun. :D |

64 votes around 4.7 and 8 guesses. All wrong BTW LOL I am pretty happy that no one is able to guess what my image is. With extra editing rules in place, this challenge was begging for abstract or manipulated images. I'm not mad with my score at all. I will be disappointed if someone guesses what it is as I thought that was the point of Puzzle Macro. There are some awesome Macro and close up images here. Vote as you like and try to guess what the image is. I'm having a blast with this!! |

Yippee - out of 6 guesses Kingskingdom got mine right. Way to go!! I won't mention my score because it is not good - oh well, it is fun to see the guesses. Well, that is what I keep telling myself - although the idea of a new personal worst is not exciting me. |

I agree Jac. I think some folks forget the actual meaning of "Macro" For a photo to be macro it has to be life size on your sensor or greater. So essentially on a DX dslr like my D200 for example it would need to be life size on the sensor which is 23.6 x 15.8mm.
I wonder why they do not just start calling these challenges "close ups" instead of macro, because in reality very few of them really are macro because you need to have a real macro 1:1 lens or use extension tubes to get the shot. (or have a nice point and shoot with macro capability which some of them do very nicely)
So to the original post that said she laughed at someone saying their shot was not "macro" enough, is your shot really a true macro? or is it just a "close up" which might have then been cropped even closer? |

well, I've got five guesses - all wrong, but good tries.
Now if my score could get UP to five, I'd be happy.
Do we get a prize if no one guesses the puzzle?
:-)) |

Because "close-up" has a separate meaning in photography, as in portraiture.
There's no standard sensor size against which to measure the captured pixels -- even if they could with a resized image! People should just get comfortable with the idea that at DPC "macro" means an extremely close image which often shows only a portion of the subject ... |

Everyone guessed correctly! Not what I expected, as I thought I was so clever! Haha!
Don't really care about the score, there are many beautiful entries and mine is kind of eh. What a fun challenge to score and comment on! We should have more "puzzle" competitions! |

OK, I'm the bag head leaving guesses with no vote. The only reason why I said a few of the shots were not macro enough is because it was obvious what the item was made from or the materials presented gave it away. Even if I couldn't recognize the object as a whole, there was enough to probably figure it out. They felt like shots taken without a macro lens is all.
Don't get so bent out of shape over it. Afterall, I didn't vote it down(or up for that matter). I was just making a guess as to what it was and merely offered my own opinion on if I thought it was a "macro" or not. If it was a "macro," my bad!

Only karennlfd has made a guess in those 6 comments(incorrect). The others don't know or didn't guess. |

this is my rant ..
"Take a macro photo of something, and try to stump the viewer as to what it actually is. "
i'm sure the low scores i'm getting are because ppl can see its a bug .. the fact that a couple of ppl cant tell what sort'v bug it is makes it totally fit the challenge (and i'm not giving it away saying that) ..
i get the feeling that a lot of voters dont even properly read the challenge description & it really sucks when they score you down accordingly ..
1 vote - score 4
10 votes - score 4.9
71 votes - score 6.2
so its got a kinda happy ending .. lol .. :)

I'm usually very tolerant of comments I don't like or don't find useful. Assuming that something isn't macro when you have no idea about the actual size of the subject itself however, is just kinda daft in my eyes and that's just my opinion.

SO many views so lil votes...lol
So far none guessed right and the guesses I have gotten... well lets just say they are guessing it is one of the most fowl smelling things to me out there... my family is laughing there butts off about the guesses. I think I may have just stumped DPC... but we will see. I do have to say though I am happy with the compliments that go along with the guesses nice to see after the last couple challenges.
