Imitation is Sincere Flattery: Select a famous photographer and create a picture imitating his/her style. Title your work "Dedicated to x", where x is the photographer's name. |

I think a challenge based on the application of techniques taught in site tutorials is a good idea - encourages people to use them and helps raise skill levels
The representation of abstract concepts is challenging and fun, but if one were to compare the quality of submissions to the 'orange' challenge with those to 'serendipity', it would seem that the portrayal of easily (visually) identifiable categories makes for better photo quality overall

This is a great idea... would make some striking shots. |

How about Flash. EXIF data must confirm flash fired. |

meh this would mean a lot MORE cat and baby pictures and I think we have all seen enough of those. |

not again... last time I was diving across the highway and saw what I thought was a great shot of my city (Toronto), also smashed my truck into the centre rail and the picture never turned out. lol guess not if I'm driving impaired. |

Here are some I posted before:
Multiple Light Sources
Wide-Angle
Framing
Create an image where the foreground subject frames the rest of the image.
Viewpoint
Take an image from an unusual viewpoint to improve composition and add interest.
Parallel Lines
Photograph a subject where parallel lines provide or strengthen the composition of the image.
Though I like the Implied Lines suggestion above much more...
High Contrast
Use high contrast to create impact in your image.
Panorama
Enter a panoramic image into this challenge. Take into account the special compositional needs of a good panorama.
Black and White
Reduce the world to a palette of grays and focus on light, shade, line, texture and form.
