The recently announced 2008 NatGeo photo contest winners...

I wonder how these shots would have done against the panel of judges here at DPC. |

| I think most of those photos would have done well. But then again my tastes are different than the average voter. I dont simply vote on eye candy pop photos. If the photo says something to me or has a good story it gets a good rating. |

But the two best images I saw out the bunch that I really liked was the door with the red wall and a bunch of post-its on it
and the other was the eiffel tower photo taken from in the train with the guy you see standing there

The fourth one in the People series of the kids playing in a room with a ball or two in Tanzania. For some reason, I think I've seen that shot here at DPC... have I?

Interesting photos-- I have a feeling that the English Edition Viewers Choice photos would outscore the juried photos if they were placed in a DPC FS. Maybe not each one, but generally speaking. My vote for NatGeo eye-candy award goes to the playing porpoises.
Just an observation to fuel the eye-candy/art argument. ;)

And for the 'wildlife/zoo' harangue, the snow leapard(indigenous to Central Asia), was actually shot in Kalispell, Montana. :P |

Thank you, Alan, and thank you, Scott. I appreciated the initial heads-up, but I also balked at loading yet another thing onto my PC.
EDIT: But oh my those are slow to load! :-p

Sure every one could win assuming of course they get entered in the right challenge theme. The highly saturated cow pic in the English Edition Winners screams DPC.

| 102,564 entries in the National Geographic contest ... what's that, about 4 years worth of DPC entries. Pretty stiff competition and the winning entries are superb. Love the dolphins and waves photo. |

different national geographic photo contest... but I'm a DPCer that won a runner up prize!
Check out the second image of the reader photo contest... the image of the woman sitting on the rock in Banff national park is mine.
No ribbon on DPC yet but I got a national geographic prize. I guess that tells you how tough the competition is on DPC!!! |

Well, since some are proudly showing off there placing in some of these magazine's contests, I won't feel too bad about bragging a little in this thread also.

I won honorable mention in Outdoor Photographer's Magical Adventures Photo Contest for this photo early last year.
A couple of weeks after the announcements of the winner I happened to meet the Grand Prize winner who, coincidentally, also lives here in Miami. He couldn't believe that he won the safari trip in Africa (neither could I) and is waiting to go until he can afford the airfare. |
