Fireworks aren't a big thing around here, either on NYE. I don't know of anywhere within a 50 - 75 mile radius that had any.

Same situation here...I don't know of anywhere remotely close that does fireworks on NYE.

But in the woodie challenge we had 130 entries - 3 times as many. It must be just as easy to buy a pack of sparklers as it is to buy a woodie... But then again; Art Roflmao has enough for all of us, and then some! :P

In many cities around here(including my hometown) fireworks cannot be sold in the city limits during anytime of the year including the fourth of July. They set up "fireworks tents" outside the city limits to sell them only during the fourth of July. So just buying a pack of sparklers would require quite a drive.

Heck ending up 43rd would be a great finish for me...........do people really check to see when you say "well I finished 43rd in a worldwide photo contest"

Especially not since you in that case also would have a ribbon to show for it! :P

I hear you man. We actually have the same type of thing in Norway except New Years is the only time of year we can buy it. When I lived in Canada it was like your place; we could only buy fireworks on July 1st.

But sparklers were to my recollection available in most party shops since it's a popular item on birthday cakes. Canada is such a liberal country! :P

I entered a sparkler in a fireworks speed challenge, mainly because there were almost no entries. EVERYONE waited until last minute to enter.
I won't be doing sparklers again... :)

eta; Oh yeah, it was because they extended a 24hr challenge to 48... Still, no sparklers from me!

I could have went to the Philly show, but it was just too cold! LOL!

"In New Jersey, it is illegal to own almost all fireworks ΓΆ€” even sparklers ΓΆ€” without a permit, which generally is reserved for shows approved by local fire departments. Possessing fireworks is roughly equivalent to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct offense, while owning fireworks with the intent to sell them carries a penalty of up to 18 months in prison and a $10,000 fine."

Hats off to New Jersey. I suppose they still have the constitutional right to carry guns, though. Couldn't someone define ammunition as fireworks?
I'm all set for one of the highest placed brown ribbons on record, yay.

Were I a member, which I'm not yet, there's no way I would do it anyway. It was -20C with windchill in toronto on NYE - even if there were fireworks in toronto (which I'm not even sure that there was) there's no chance I'm heading out in the dead of night in freezing cold weather to photograph them.

Here in the Denver area, there was only one show and that was in downtown Denver. None of the other cities had one. It was a small, short show and there's no way I'll make the drive next year :)
