Tuesday night me and two friends were heading out to a bar to throw some darts and drink some brews. Fortunately, my camera was with me.

The friend driving saw red off of the horizon and smoke. Apparently a large fire. I told him to drive back in the direction of the smoke to see what was up. When we rolled up on this house, it was already completely engulfed and there was no one there. I told the other passenger to call 911 and I started shooting. We were there for about 45 minutes or so and I got pretty much the whole thing.

Needless to say, the 5D MKII rocks. I was shooting with the 24-70 f/2.8 and the 70-200 f/2.8 IS. The below photos are a little small, but if you click on them, it'll take you to the flick page where you can see the larger sizes. In the last one you can see about how hard it was raining.

Whew! I thought this was going to be a thread about Dr. Achoos' new MKII and he'd already gotten it wet. :)

Nice images BTW.

I could only wish. No wait! I don't wish for that! No wait! But then I'd have a mkII! No wait!...

the low light performance on this thing is epic.

if you don't mind me asking, did you buy it as a kit or as the body only? I am looking for body-only but only the kits seem to be in stock anywhere. B&H claims the body only hasn't even come in yet. i already have the kit lens (24-105).

Those were all at 3200 ISO.

I bought the kit and sold the lens a week later for $850.

I did the same thing when I bought my 40D (a DPCer coincidentally PMed me asking for opinions on that very lens the day after I got the kit). Note that Provantage sells the kit for $3361. If you get $800 for the lens, that's still a substantial discount from the body-only price at B&H.

did you sell the lens on ebay or elsewhere? i would imagine the market is getting inundated with these lenses if everyone is selling them off.

In this economy, that could be pretty big "if"

Eleven 24-105 lenses have been sold on eBay since Jan 1st ranging from $789 to $935... and the cheaper ones were used. A new one at $800 would be snapped up quickly, and you could sell it for $700 and still be ahead of the body-only price.

I got 4-5 hits on POTN within the first week of potential buyers until some one somewhat local sent bought it. Of course, that's a Canon DSLR forum with over 100k registered members.

Even at full sized they look pretty good. What you're viewing is 500px on the widest end sized down from a little over 3500 on the widest end. That helps to cure most of the noise.

Wait, I wanna hear more about the wetness. How wet did the camera get, how long were you in the rain, did you protect it at all and did it do fine? These are important questions for me...

About 45 minutes. I hopped back in the car at one point to dry off the camera and swap lenses. It the first time I've shot in the rain, so the only real problem was from the water on the front lens element causing the flare and slight distortion in some photos. The camera was hanging around my neck the whole time.
