Any of you fellow Utahans have any suggestions of some good places to do some scenic/landscape shots? I̢۪m in the Salt Lake area and somewhere not too far to travel, maybe even somewhere I could turn into a little family outing. I thought I̢۪d see if I could get some suggestions before I head out on my own to scope some areas out.
Also does anyone know where there is an old (rusty) car or truck that is accessible or fairly easy to obtain permission to get pictures?

Bryce, There are some really great places that aren't very far away.
I like the abandoned train car that's just north of you. Take 7200 West northbound and follow it over i-80 to the frontage road, then turn left (west). Just down the road on the right, there is an abandoned rail car that is near a building. Both are covered in some fantastic graffiti.
I love the road to Park City between the I-80 junction and the town. There's a great barn type building about half way there.
The view from the State Capitol is fantastic to capture the city, as well as the 10th floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building downtown.
One of my favorite places is the Great Salt Lake Marina which is further west of the abandoned train car.

And don't forget our Utah GTG, the 4th Annual Red Rock GTG that is being held in June. I'm bringing my family. It will be sooo fun.

Arches N.P. which is in Moab and then there is Dead Horse point nearby, very pretty as well. If you decide Bryce, which is beautiful, then Mount Zion N.P. is only about 30-40 min away, it's gorgeous as well. I could spend a year in Utah....I want to go back now:-) |

Most of the suggestions for Southern Utah seem too far, especially since the OP is looking for "somewhere not too far too travel". I will say it is spectacular though. Becky, I thought you were telling him to go to Bryce Canyon until I clicked his portfolio and saw BM's name is Bryce. haha
My girlfriend is from SLC, we went on a day trip to Bridal Veil Falls which probably right now is frozen. It was pretty cold but a nice drive. Here is an entry from there.

You can go up any of the local canyons. I love some of the snow scenes and stream scenes up Little Cottonwood Canyon. Big Cottonwood Canyon is terrific, especially near the Spruces and up the small road just east of the Spruces near the tubing hills.

Hey thanks for your suggestions guys! I̢۪ll have to go check out a few of the closer places mentioned. I̢۪ve wanted to take a trip down South and spend a little time down there. It̢۪s just a matter of getting time off work along with the wife. It does sound fun! |
