Obama claimed in his speech last night that earmarks were out. If what you say is true, wouldn't the opposing party be jumping all over that today?
Funny, I just did a google search, and the first thing I saw was a Fox News story from six hours ago about two of Obama's cabinet members and earmarks. However, if I read the story correctly, these are actually carry-overs and are not part of the bailout/stimulus plan. |

Fair enough but I don't think he ever said "hope will fix things" but if he did offer some hope and I see no issue with that. He has said many times and honestly I may add, that this is a serious problem we're in and that it will most likely get worse, before it get's better. Again, he's been very frank about that and we can't really fault him there. He's also said this will take time to fix, as the problem didn't happen over night. I'm sure you've heard him say that many times, as well.
As far as pork and earmarks, I'm sure there's some there but not nearly as serious or out of control as you've stated. I'm finding a fine line between what people are calling pork and what others as saying isn't true "stimulus" with forethought. I assume keeping some things alive that need a little bump are clearly not pure in those terms but not criminal either. Even something short term, that keeps people in their homes, paying taxes, feeding their families shouldn't necessarily be ruled out as bad at this point.
In short, he's made a lot of moves in the last month and a half...reached across the aisle etc. so, to say he's working off the fumes of a few frilly words simply isn't accurate.

"Who among us would ask our children for a loan, so we could spend money we do not have, on things we do not need?"
I'm glad Governor Jindal seems to agree we need a change from the policies of the past eight years, which have increased the National debt by some four to six trillion dollars ... and we know that money did not end up funding decent jobs for working Americans. |

The economy is a cycle which we are at the bottom of right now. When it turns around in 2-5 years, the current administration will get the credit. Whatever goes wrong, they will get the blame for at the end of 4 or 8 years. Fact is, the economy is a living, breathing thing, which is the sum of everyone's behavior. One person may have some influence, but to pin it all on the president, whether good or bad, is not reasonable. By the same token, GW should not have all the blame pinned on him. We all created it by our actions as a group.

I didn't vote for Obama but he is the President and deserves respect. I do think he is trying to do what is best for our nation and I am willing to give him a chance. He has a big hill to climb and a hard road to travel. On the other hand I have a big beef with congress. They are putting things in these bills that have no right to be in there. Obama told congress he wanted the recovery bill on his desk by Presidents day and it was. There was no way he could have went line-by-line (even if he was at the Whitehouse over the weekend) before signing it into law the day after Presidents day. When all the unnecessary expenditures come to light and people see that a lot of the money could have been allocated more effectively he will be to blame - not the nuts in congress. I think that's a shame; I believe he has made a rookie mistake by allowing Pelosi and Reid run with this bill and trusting congress as a whole.

Right now, we're not in a cyclic downturn but a disaster based on greed and massive stupidity which WE ALL share blame in (except for me of course because I've been screaming about this bullshit for years) and if nothing is done it won't simply turn around in 2-5 years. Look at "Japans Lost Decade" as they call it.
Again, this is not your basic ebb and flow but some seriously evil stuff.

This is hardly a damning critique - the substance of pretty much every claim is confirmed, though several would benefit from futher clarification.

Wasn't offering it as a damning critique, TYVM. :)
