Hi everyone, before I go any further I want you to know this is not a complaint or a critiscism after all 400 people can't all be wrong! my recent score was avg 5.0476 but the only feed back I received was positive. Could someone please advise me on my errors. I'm so frustrated with myself, I love photography but just don't seam to reach my desired place in the field. I'm very limited to lighting, I only have 2 portaflash systems. Sorry don't know how to add a link otherwise I would have.

I think you mean this image:

I'm not the worlds best at portraits (in fact I suck) so I'm probably not the best person to be offering cirticism, however my immediate points would be:

The crop is wrong, you've cut the top of the head off but left space around the sides. I think either a closer crop to keep just the face or a wider one to get the whole head in.

The background is a bit distracting, different colours at both sides of the head and there are some vague details there which catch your eye.

The DOF might be a touch too shallow.

The child's expression won't have helped, I'll bet if it was a happy smile you would have gained quite a bit of score.

Like I said though, portraits are probably my weakest area of photography, so take anything I say with a pinch of salt!

Thanks for your reply I really appreciatet it. I have a look at the crop I do see what you mean. Sadly I couldn't get her to pose as she was for ever on the go so I just had to snap as and when..

many thanks - Fran
