With 175+ entries I think the only things I haven't entered are the lens-cap left on dark frame (and my camera can't do that) and the water-drop shots.

This seems such a silly challenge to me and leaves the whole thing wide open but worse still how can you even vote on something like that as you could choose a nice image as a ribbon winner and it could have been done before????????????
I am so confused But it will be fun trying no doubt!

Not every challenge idea turns out to be a good idea ... some end up better than expected and some worse. But as you say, we can still have fun finding out.

the people that have and idea are keeping their mouths shut, but are thinking.."what a sweet challenge!!"
You shall change your tune when one hits you.
GeneralE-I think you are going to need to shoot porn to complete this one. LOL Unless, you already have that stash done at home?! wink wink nudge nudge Know what I mean?

I suppose I can take a picture of that beautiful woman who walks by my building every day, I've never photographed her; nor have I... never mind. Anyway, just last week I was in part of NY state that I'd never been to before or photographed... one week to soon, damn!

So why does everybody wait until after the challenge has been "officially announced" to complain about the wording?

This challenge was suggested by coolhar back in this thread on February 28th. It was then included in a summary, with the exact details listed, by PaulMdx on March 1st.

Why don't people "complain" about the wording when it is posted to the "Challenge Suggestions" forum so it can be corrected before it becomes a real challenge?!

It would be much more beneficial to nit-pick the suggested challenges then rather than after it is "too late"...

Good point!

well we don't know if a suggestion will actually make it to the challenge list...so no need in arguing over it if we don't know the fait of a challenge suggestion.

I read that thread, but really didnt see where it was etched in stone about the description of the challenge being a permanant thing, they are just suggestions.

I think they also expect the SC or admins to hash out the details, only we're usually busy with other stuff. When people throw out suggestions in the threads, I think others want to support the idea and encourage participation by not immediately trying to amend it. Maybe that process should change.

Just think of it as a free study challenge in terms of DPC - and a personal challenge to yourself in finding something new and interesting to shoot that you might not have looked for otherwise.

Even if I had such a stash I couldn't use it since they would be "out-of date." But it's true I have no actual nude photos entered, just a couple of semi-simulated ones, so I guess I have at least one genre available ...

I'm afraid that if I do something that is new to me but is not new to most, I will be punished. For example I never shoot flowers. :))

I made the suggestion for this challenge at a time when people were asking for more free study type challenges; and also people were complaining about too many pets and kids entries. There shoundn't be any "doesn't fit" comments, or knocking off points. If you can't relate, sorry 'bout that, there'll be another challenge posted tommorow night.

A quote from Neuferland (thx D) captures the intended spirit perfectly--

"GET OFF YOUR DUFF AND GO OUT AND FIND SOMETHING NEW TO SHOOT! :)".

Hmmm. Weddings? Sports? Sounds fun!

My pleasure, I plan on doing just that, finding something new and different to do.

Been on my duff way too much lately :)

It would seem that this challenge is more of a personal challenge in that it is encouraging people to try something different. If you are always in the garden shooting flowers and never take pictures of buildings then go and find an interesting building etc.

The only people who will end up 'not meeting the challenge' are those who 'cheat' and shoot a subject they have shot before. In the end, that is the only person who loses even if they win a ribbon because they failed to learn what the challenge is setting out to do - to get us to do something different.

As for voting, it should be easy - vote on the photographs as photographs and not as a detective project where you have to find out (or assume) that the shot was taken by someone who has shot it before.

Hmmmmm, we may get 209 turd photos and 4 non-turds.
05/03/2004 01:00:38 PM · #44
I'll make sure it isn't worse than 208 and 5 ....
05/03/2004 01:11:49 PM · #45
[quote=dhare] This is basically saying shoot something highly original, that no-one has seen before. That's how it will be voted, as you can't tell if someone has shot that type of shot before.

The challenge says shoot something YOU have never entered before
That doesn't mean that no one else has done it LET's STICK WITH THE CHALLENGE I think this will be a onteresting challenge

I am new here . . . but for me, the whole point of joining in the challenges is to be challenged, so grow in my abilities. My husband asked "so how is anyone going to know if you've shot that before". My answer was they won't, that I do this for the nudge it gives my creativity, and not to win. Winning is wonderful, but not the thing what makes this site so valuable.

Right on Kylie!
05/03/2004 06:51:09 PM · #49
Good on you, Kylie I agree with you and after my initial negative post, I think I will have a go after all the name of the game is 'Challenge'
The image should be voted on its quality

Best of luck everyone.
