I'm new, so sorry if I've missed something important, but I think it'd be helpful if the initial comments were visible during voting. They obviously should affect the score, but sometimes the replies would be a lot more helpful if they took account of how the photo was taken (esp. when it goes as far back as the 1000th "Hidden Gem" one).

Would do you all think?

I guess that viewing the comments would make it obvious in some cases whose photograph it is, and may compromise objective voting. I do agree it would be helpful in some cases though.

I do know my Hidden Gem entry would make sense to some more people if my notes were visible. I don't think you will get much agreement on this idea, though. Some folks would like to eliminate titles as well, as they feel the photo needs to stand on it's own without any explanation at all.

I wish I could agree--because there have certainly been times where the comments have made a huge difference in my appreciation of the photo. But when all is said and done, a photo should be able to stand on its own. It already has a little help, because you can give it a title.

edited to add: I'm not speaking against titles. It feels like an art show to me--and I do believe photography is art.

I dont think a lot of people would even read the description, myself included. For example, in the Hidden Gem challenge, I barely had the time to leave a comment and vote on each photo, let alone read a description of each.

It would be ideal to be able to leave notes, but its just a little impractical IMO.
