What project would you focus on if you had $10k to work with? I think I would spend a few months with children in Cuba.

Living with Muscular Dystrophy-A photographic tale of life with Neuromuscular diseases.

This is an actual project I started a year ago, funded by my own money. With real money I would be able to actually spend the time doing it for two months following several families through daily life and doctors visits.

You must be the reason for the restricted eligibility:
"Applicants must be presently engaged as a professional wedding or portrait photographer. A professional wedding or portrait photographer, for the purposes of the ShootQ Grant, is one who derives the majority of his or her income from wedding or portrait photography."

I'd like to document the life and days of several children with Type 1 Diabetes. The fear when they go in the hospital through their amazing ability to overcome and have normal lives, with interviews about how it changed their lives not only physically, but emotionally... and what it's done to their families and how to help others get through it.

But with or without the grant, I'm going to do it!

Having just returned from Copàn Ruinas and Nuevo San Isidro, honduras, I could easily do this if I got a grant.

I fell in love with the poeple and the place.

I'm a self-employed self-portrait photographer, does that count?

If more than half your reportable income derives from your portrait photography, then it would seem so. I suppose they may ask for your tax return if you don't have an incorporated business, but instead report the income as miscellaneous or file a Schedule C (sole proprietorship).

That's the driest reaction to a joke I've ever had.

My mom and brother both have long experience in the southern California entertainment buziness, so I'm used to hearing ...

Mother #1: "Oh, and my son, he's such a wonderful actor!"

Mother #2: "That's terrific! What restaurant does he work at?"

I would do an in depth study of the impact of credit card debt elimination on the middle class American family.

IF I were a pro and eligible for this, I would like to document the lives of migrant and seasonal farmworkers. I work with this demographic right now and their lives have some incredible stories to tell.
