seeing? Are there shots that have been over played that you are just tired of seeing? I know that newer folks see techniques & shot ideas that they try & replicate for challenges and that not the same group of people are taking tha same shots over & over again but are there some shots that you are just sick & tired of seeing?
I know that I feel like flowers have been bombarding challenges as of late, more so than ususal. Sure, it's spring & this is the time for blooming flowers but the two current challenges up for votes seem to be almost 50% (mac) flowers. All the compos & tight shots seem to be the same. There isn't even a wide variety of flowers being shot either.
Any thoughts out there about this & other repeative themes/subjects that seem to be played out?

I agree. I am trying as one of those new people to avoid it as much as I can. I have a lot of flower shots in my collection, becuase I really do find them beautiful and the backyard is so easy to be tempted by! But I have tried to not submit anything to a challenge that I figure is a "been there/done that"! |

Pretty much the reason I haven't entered in about 1 1/2 months.
No time + no ideas = No entries :(
The good thing is I'm taking pictures I enjoy and things that I normally don't take pictures of. That's way the "Something New II" is so interesting. Just hope I have the time and subjects :)

At least I am not alone! Some folks seem to be brilliant 24/7 and never run out of ideas . . . . . . but it probably just looks that way. They say the best always make it look easy! |

What I've been doing is brainstorming. You know those ideas that people throw out in the forums. Keep a notebook and jot down all ideas so when the challenge comes up then you will be ahead of the game.

I can't speak for any creative ideas - I'm starting to run out. ;)
But I can tell you things I'm sick of -
- eye drops of water over things
- babies and children that are snapshots and aren't actually well composed
- photos of toys
- photos of statues (sometimes they're done really well, so I still vote high if this is the case)

I agree wholeheartedly with ccraft! Some of the "snapshots", I have even wondered if they were a "joke" entry. I am also sick of macros of insects. |

I love macros of insects (one of my favorite subjects).
However, I am sick of seeing snapshots that were taken with no photo quality whatsoever. Just because it fits the challenge theme, doesn't mean that you need to enter the challenge. I remember thinking that someone had to be out of their mind to submit the photos I have seen, taken almost in the dark, they were grainy, blurry and just composed horribly... but it fit the challenge theme. I wouldn't do it.
But who am I to think they didn't belive it was a great photo!? :) |

flowers and macros and macros of flowers. take the broad view! expand the scope! make composition more important.

I'm kinda tired of seeing so many over-NeatImage'd photos. I mean, a little is OK. But recently it seems like a lot of people are moving those sliders a little too far to the right. |

Ok I am guilty too 10th time in 2 weeks,, pictures of flowers!
Yeah they are awesome and pretty, lots of colors!
I started thinking today instead of the head on shots or the zoom way in on 1 flower, you know the so easy kids learn stuff....
How about trying upside down, inside, inside out, rightside, leftside, underneath, shots more.....OK we have some photographers that have some really good ones that have done this too....Can we think more create, take the flowers away from its nature or growing area, rather in a different vase,(put the vase where noone goes and then take pictures....Put fresh cut flowers, buds, petals, leaves where you would least expect anyone to ever put them,,,,(hey for the macho photographer even toilet) No offense to anyone cause anyone can do the toilet thing........place them with something or on someone and make a statement!!
Any other ideas......cmon flowers are so lovely! We got to get are creative juices flowing and show some different stuff here!!
Just some suggestions.....

Tihs is a good idea Welland, I never thought about taking a notebook with me and jotting ideas, I guess I just get so caught up in things that I tend to not think of such things. What usually gets me challenge ideas is just taking pictures, even just getting the camera out and taking a few shots is all that is needed to get my ideas rollin'.

Photographs of flowers are ok if done well but in the abstract challenge ... what's going on ... tons of macros of the interior of tulips ... I guess it's because it's spring in the Northern Hemisphere. |
