Since several people ask me everytime I post photos from a new session and since some people want to know where to go so that they can start modeling . . . .
OneModelPlace.com
I've been to GarageGlamour, FreelanceModels, SouthernModels (out of business now) and numerous others. Heck, I'm even listed on several other websites. One thing I've found in the last year is that anyone who is serious about modeling whether its to find models or to find work as a model will eventually end up on OMP. It is the premier webservice for modeling. I've shot with models from OMP who now work with Elite and Ford and I've shot with people who just wanted to pickup $25/hour for gas money after their college classes. Viewers should be warned, though, anyone's portfolio can (and very often does) contain nudity so its viewer discretion advised; if you're offended by nudity OMP might not be the site for you. If you don't mind looking past some shots (or maybe you enjoy them) then OMP is where you should go to find work as or with a model.
If it says anything:
1. I'm not affiliated with OMP other than I subscribe to their service.
2. You can use their service both as a photographer and as a model for free and so far I've never regretted paying for the additional services as I've gotten tons out of the site.
Hope this helps some of you who have been searching,
Kev

what are the advantages to paying to be on the site as opposed to being a free member?

I am very aware of OMP, but personally I think its a big rip off and all fakes on there. Too many bad experiences.

I just copied this from the site for the level that I subscribe to (Platinum)
101 Images Hosted
140K Image Size Limit
50/Day Emails Send
Access to Casting Call, Chat and Message Boards
OMP Email/50MB
Homepage Spotlight
Advanced Talent Search
Multistate Listing Notification
Multistate Portfolio Listing
Pop-Up Ads Disabled
Banner Ads Disabled
Video Streaming
I can initiate a casting call for specific states, I can associate my account with multiple states (which is nice living on the border of 3 states I am available to models in TN, GA or AL).

Thanks Kev. Im sure this should get more annoying...
Im filling out the info to sign up, and its asking what types of Photography I do. Truth be told, I havent done any Portraiture at all yet, but I would love to start doing a lot of it, I dont want to falsely advertise that I do such and such a type of Portrait, when I have never really done it yet. Should I leave those blank? Or do you think I should fill in what it is I am looking to do...

Hey Kevin in your portfolio on the modeling place it only had x in all blocks of pictures should be,, maybe be active x, my sttings, firewall??
Can anyone else view them?
Thats neat what you are doing.
I would agree too on the cash paid for some of the modeling stuff, I looked into agency when my son was born, but they didnt take kids till they were 3 and you had to pay them big $ for a portfolio and work was not guaranteed.
modeling or photography they have to start somewhere, and why not help each other get exposed.

Jeremy,
I'd fill in what you'd like to do and then where you have a space to write about yourself make a note that you are just getting started and want to build your portfolio and skills in modeling portraiture.
A word of advice, when you're first starting out on OMP I've found that often you get no shows or someone cancels at the last minute. Now that I've lived through several of those and have a decent portfolio (about 80 pics) I haven't had a no-show or a cancellation in . . . . Well, not any in 2004. Once people can see your work and know that you will work with them you'll start to really get some good work (at least that's been my experience and I started from flat out nothing).

Tracy,
Not sure why you might not see them but numerous Web Safety programs that people install on their computers block OMP because so many of the accounts contain nudity. You can see many of the shots or shots from the same photosessios by looking in my PBase account under Portraits or Archived Portraits.
Yeah, I've just heard of too many people getting shafted and stuck in deals where they couldn't make any money without forking over a hefty percentage to the agency even if the agency didn't find the work for them. Of course, there are legit agencies out that that work hard for their clients but it takes a lot of hard work to get rep'd by one of those (Elite, Ford, etc). Most people get suckered in by one of the agencies that grift the malls searching for any decently proportioned, attractive teen whose mother and father think should be in Gap ads or Old Navy and then they get Mom or Dad to sign an exclusive contract and they the agency charges for the photos, puts them into a "book" that they don't hustle out to any paying clients and the family never hears word one about any paying jobs. Often these agencies try to stick in a clause that allows them to resign the youngster after 1 or 2 years at the agency's discretion.
I'm pretty fed up with crap like that. I'm a photog; not a rep but I don't charge models. I'll give the models a starting portfolio of shots that they can use to try and get more professional work from someone with a larger, more well-connected studio in Atlanta, Nashville or Birmingham.
Like I said, I like my job right now and I just want to get better at portraiture so that I can someday retire into a nice job taking pictures at the ripe, young age of 55 or so. Just ease out the rest of my days shooting little tykes or senior's school portraits or wedding/engagement work. If it takes me 20 years to get better at this, well, I've got that kind of time.

Just a note. Anyone, other than a model, has to pay a minimum of $10 for a membership. Models are the only ones that get the FREE membership. Definately worth the $10 to test the waters though.
Edit: typo

I am currently using www.net-model.com
It is a great place to find models and right now you can join for free because they are upgrading their system. I like it alot more than OMP.
Check it out! |
