I'm putting it into a show next month, and it would be nice to know what kind of butterfly it is. Does anybody know? |

I'm no help on the butterfly. Where/when is your show? |

My guess is a "Eueides Isabella" based on photos I have of the legend at the butterfly conservatory.

I'll have eight pieces at San Diego Hospice from August 29 to November 7. The reception is September 13. I'll make a more public fuss about it when it gets closer to the time, but I'm in the midst of getting everything printed, framed, titled, and priced right now. |

I've been searching for hours. I've found over a dozen photos of that same butterfly, but none were named. :-( Just call the place and ask! |

I think jeger pegged it for you. Also called "Isabella's Longwing". See www.mariposasmexicanas.com/eueides_isabella_eva.htm |

My hatred for spending all that time and coming up empty. |

I think it's also known as the Tiger Longwing?
ETA:
Maybe not, but they look very similar. Especially their body marks. They have the white tipped wings and same coloring.
I have one shot
//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heliconius_hecale
When searching for Heliconius Hecale photos popup of both the Tiger Longwing and the Golden Helicon. So I wonder, if they're indeed the same type or not? In the initial shot Ann posted, the top of the wing is very similar, the body is the same, and the antennae are yellow tipped. Could be one's female and the other's a male?

I remembered seeing them at the Oregon Zoo Butterfly Exhibit.
