I think there was probably a solution that would have met the needs of both parties had the time been taken to figure one out. I don't think that an outright refusal to cooperate was the answer, nor was a Orwellian confiscation of the media cards. However, such a solution might have required some intervention on the part of someone higher up the chain of command.
And, yes, the prof is a dingleberry. |

I think the lesson here is "Don't keep 2 months of work on a card with out down loading or backing up the work". |

My understanding was that he didn't have all the images on the card, just the ones he was supposed to turn in this week -- he has been turning them in periodically, and Monday was a due date that he couldn't make.
Or maybe I dreamed that. |

A few nights ago I dreamed of a small spotted pony. A very gentle pony which followed me all around, even in my house. He got along great with my dogs and I just loved giving it neck hugs. |

I dreamed the other night I was a pirate and we were stealing hotdogs instead of gold. |

Here's where I picked up he had 2 months of work on the cards. I could easily be wrong. :)

If I didn't have a 2-month senior project to hand in to my professor, I would've offered them the cards before they even asked me. They're the police and they're just trying to do their job. I have pictures of the people that need to be arrested, so I'm obviously going to be a good citizen, and help. |

Yes, there are several issues that have gone unexplained, not that he owes us an exp. |

and later he said --

Maybe I misunderstood. If so, I apologize. Have you been handing in pictures periodically? |
To clarify: I've spent every possible second with the Guardian Angels lately, and have all the pictures (excluding Saturday night) backed-up on my hard drive. Every week we have to hand in an update for class, and Saturday night was the only time I saw the Angels the whole week, therefore I have nothing to turn in. This is a huge project for me, and to even miss one week of turning in an assignment is not going to look great on my final grade. That's why I would like a copy of my photos from the LAPD, and I'm going to talk to the detective when his shift starts at 6pm... |

As I was reading this, the most beautiful image of a pony, making it's way around furniture in a house, with wooden floors and doilies(sp?) on the tables came to mind and it was the most pleasant thought I've had today.. :-).. (it's been a long long long day)... Thanks for sharing !!! |

You sure it wasn't a Unicorn?

No. As I said, it was a small spotted pony. Do you see any spots on those unicorns?
Dang, and I just favored one of your pics too. :(
Kandy, it was a very pleasant dream to remember for me too. I rarely remember my dreams. |

I see spots on him, but I must admit I had a bit of a procedure on my toe today, and the pain pills might be
the source of those spots. I've seen a few things this evening that may or may not have actually been there. :D

There needs to be some sort of graphic representation of the progression of a thread like this. Hmmm... maybe the pony or the unicorn will have to suffice.
edit: Wait, maybe I found one...

Dude, the first rule of Project Mayhem is that you don't talk about Project Mayhem. Posting a photo of it breaks the rules all the way down to #6!

That is the time to use the "Attorney" card. It's not like the police immediately go and pop it in get a still photo and then start looking foir the guys. They have to go file reports and turn in your card and enter it is as evidence first and go through the appropriate channels and forward to a detective who already have lots of cases on their plate, especially since it is LA. Saying your attorney would give it to them later should have been no problem as it is your right to do so. It's a good chance it hasn't even been looked at yet. |

Final update- I got my cards back today!! It took a few weeks, and an embarrassing F for that portion of the project, but I have both of my 8-gig cards with all the images. Thanks for everyone's advice on what to do :)
The police said that there's enough evidence on there to put photos out on posters, the news, etc. until they catch these guys. It's nice to know that I can help in that regard. Also, all of the Guardian Angels are still healing and back on patrol, except for their leader who is still recovering at his home. |

Glad to hear you got them back. It sucks about the grade I hope there is something that you can do for that. Get a not from the police or something. Thanks for sharing the story. I was wondering what came of your cards. |

you should ask the police to mention it in their report perhaps the media can put out a bad word for your professor for giving you an F for doing a public service. |

Tom - you really ought to consider writing an appeal to your Dean to see if anything can be done. I teach at a college, and have seen too many students accept what is handed to them without any kind of fight. If you feel that your work is due some kind of review, then it is worth the effort to get a better grade. And let your instructor know that you plan on pursuing this. I will say that I find it strange that you are going to accept that F after putting in all that work.
Congrats on getting your cards back! |

I agree, and thanks for the update, as well as thumbs up for going out of your way to do a great community service. I'm not sure that I would want a lot of local publicity though, as the thugs are still out there and they may not appreciate your efforts.

Congrats on getting your card back, and good advice from these guys about contacting the Dean. Media is effective, too, but there is that danger of backlast that Melon mentioned. |
