Hi
I'm due to shoot a wedding for a friend of a friend in October and thought it would be worth purchasing a new 50mm lens. That was the easy part, the hard part is choosing between the Canon 50mm 1/2l usm or the 1/4 usm. Also, I have a canon 40D would it be worth me upgrading to the 5D
I hope you can all help me decide!

I recently went through this decision - not an easy one to make. I ended up getting the 50 f/1.2L - it works very well on my 5D2. If the 50 f/1.4 was built like the 85 f/1.8, I probably would have gone for that one. The Sigma is very good, but the AF is hit and miss. The Zeiss 50 f/1.4 is simliar to the Canon 1.4 but MF.
Have a look at these for inspiration:

I am a Nikon user... but that 1.2L is almost enough to make me switch. Used it in a shop... I must say, it is droolworthy.
**Also, check out Haru and Mister Bokeh on flickr... both of them are great photographers here in Korea, and both use that lens on a daily basis!

WHOA! If I could choose between 1.4 and 1.2 I would've gone for the 1.2. It looked sickening sharp at f/2 :-/ My 35mm f/2 can't be used with f/2.... |
