I'd apologize for the rant, but I'm just really frustrated at what seems to be more demands the more we're given.
Frankly, I think it's pretty damn unappreciative. |
Sounds alot like the argument for larger sizes for challenge entries. ???! |

I might be wrong but I think they are looking at making it an option in the profile but maybe a check box in the download process could be added to override by image. A lot of watermarks include web site information which could also have a real positive effect helping lead people to look at your website and for those professionals possibly create more business. |

Perhaps you could elaborate on this and/or offer something relevant? |
Sure.
You demand for everyone to be understanding and compassionate towards others' feelings, ideals and ideas (see religious threads), but you rarely - if ever, practice it yourself. You verbally chastise others when they don't agree with you and you are one of the most melodramatic posters I have seen on the Internets. You've said what you have to say over and over in this and the other threads and frankly, it's a bit old.
You asked for a poll and you got it. Looks like an overwhelming majority want some kind of protection. If you can't deal with it then, well...........you'll just keep ranting and ranting won't you?
And another thing while I'm at it. This comment: "You have yet to respond to my repeated queries as to what it might indicate to you that the people with more talent and experience than you don't seem to be constantly asking for more" is rude, condescending, and has no merit. If you drive a 98 Taurus does that mean you have no right to put a steeringwheel boot on it since I have a 32 Ford and don't lock it? |

Yeah, you're right, I've become a rotten person.
It didn't used to be like this here.
I need to get out of here.

Ummmm...just over 50% is HARDLY the "overwhelming majority" you are claiming. 4:1, overwhelming. 3:2...not that overwhelming to me. |

As of this post it is 60 percent. So, 60% of the folks want some sort of watermark protection scheme.

The warm cosy small community feeling of 2002 and 2003 is definitely gone. And while the work here is not outstanding, many people act like they are beyond pro.
I was a bit shocked to find my name on the 2nd page of DPC PG profiles now. In the past it used to be on page 8. Seems like many friends have gone.
But I will stay. Time never stands still, look forward and not back...

I apologise if someone has already suggested this but surely it would make sense to have the option for watermarking at the point of image upload.
Personally I prefer to look at images without watermarks and would not wish to watermark my own pics on this site.

How would he know that? He's been a member since 06.
Heck, I've been here longer than that and I remember heated arguments, site complaints and lost tempers from day one. |

Ummmmm. 60% isn't just over 50% is it? And of course it isn't overwhelming to you; however, if it was 60% in favor of keeping it like it is that would be overwhelming though wouldn't it?
For the record, I probably wouldn't watermark my challenge entries but I do understand why some people would. I have no problem giving them that option so I voted yes.

I suggest to centralize the water mark here in DPC, more organized and professional looking,
A DPC watermark on all the challenge entries, and an Option to keep it after the vote is over. For those who are suggesting no watermark during voting .... Really?!!
You mean all what it takes to obtain a copy from whatever picture in here is to register?
If you want to make things really neat and customized,
You can create a script or whatever is the way, that adds the photographer info under the DPC watermark when the challenge is over, with an option to turn it on and off,
Something like having the DPC logo in in medium size and beneath it something like '' This photography belongs to: '' Member Name '' All rights reserved c,
What would change from a member to another is only the name.
People who don't want that .. fine .. opt out,
I was totally against increasing the size of the challenge entries, now its is voted, nothing but the respect to the majority's vote.
It really get on my nerve to see people threatening to collect their toys and leave if water mark this or that ..
I think the right direction is to wait till this poll is over, another poll to see if we want the Watermark as well applied during the challenges, and finally applying whatever we voted on.
Regards,

You are also very hypocritical in your opinions. You are so hell bent against site growth with size IMPROVEMENTS and hell bent on a stupid ass watermark, YET you don't watermark your portfolio images OR your own damn website. What the hell is the difference needing a watermark for challenge entries? Is it your delusions of grandeur? You cannot point to a tangible loss from not having a watermark. Hell, how much are you "losing" with all those unprotected portfolio and website images? It must be millions.
Where is the difference in you posting your own images without a watermark, but you want the site to take responsibility for your challenge entries? Your hypocritical spew is really annoying me. Either practice what you so fervently preach about, or sit down and be quiet. It is YOUR responsibility to protect YOUR images. Register your copyrights and keep them locked away if it is such a freaking issue. I am growing weary of this watermark bullsh!t and the idea that Langdon is even entertaining it. Where is the ticket to request a refund on membership? This is ridiculous. I'd rather you just keep your precious, priceless works of art to yourself.

For the life of me I cannot understand the bitter anger that you are showing over this.
I don't like sushi. I've tried it many different ways and I just can't get into it. By your way of thinking - because I don't like sushi - then I should believe no one else could like it either, nor should it be made available to them.
Because this photographer doesn't watermark his images that means he shouldn't want anyone else to have the ability to watermark theirs?

sigh
If a watermark is designed to protect copyright is going to work it has to intrusive, something cute in the corner of an image won't cut it 'cos one could still nick most of the picture.
For my part I would not want to see my photo's here watermarked, if we go down that route I would prefer it to be optional.
If the watermark is present post voting then it only takes folks to register, vote and nick images they think they might want to use later.
As for protecting our rights, well I only shoot photo's for this site that are for DPC competitions. If we really are in the processes of making mega bucks from some photographs we are taking then its best not to upload them to this site.
Out of interest though what has caused this to become an issue? |

Portfolio images he can delete if he wants to. On his website he's using a flash program to display them...not impossible to grab, but harder.

Challenge entries stay up forever. Can't change them, can't delete them, etc...

Id say stealing a photo of someone's child right off this site and using it on a billboard might've had a little to do with it. |

He's been bitching about not being able to watermark in the other discussion threads, yet he still doesn't watermark. It is hypocritical to beg for it, yet not do it on teh images you already can. |

Actually, it has been going on for years longer than that ISOLATED incident. Now that you've mentioned it, please show us all how a watermark could have remained unobtrusive AND still protected that original image.

Super argument. I imagine you can't even see the obvious fallacious argument there, can you?

No one has to prove anything. I guess you guys can go on living in your magical little world where everyone is out to steal your images and take food away from your children. I suppose should be honored to be allowed to be a part of something that contains such greatness. Pass the fairy dust, please.
And sure, his works are nice. I just can't believe that such greatness is posted without the watermarks for which he has been begging. According to previous posts from him, I can only wonder about the amount of money he must be losing. |
