I'm finally going to upgrade my little point and shoot to an SLR. I'm looking at the Canon Rebel but there are so many different ones and I'm just wondering if anyone can give their input.
I'm looking at the following:
EOS Rebel XSi Black 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55 mm IS Lens
Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with E-S 18-55mm DC Lens - Black
EOS Rebel XS Black 10.1 MP DSLR Camera with 18-55mm IS Lens
Please help! I am still so new to this and I'm trying to read up on them but it all looks the same after a while.
Thanks! |

First look at the specs for the XS and XSi cameras side by side to see the differences.
Next, look at the two lenses side by side to see the difference in specs. The one you label as E-S is probably EF-S.
These side by side comparisons can be done at DP Review (at least for the camera). |

You've got the XS listed twice. Was the second XS intended to actually be another model? Perhaps different lenses in the kits? The IS version of the 18-55 kit lens is much better than the original version. I've used both and the difference was noticeable.
I am more partial to the XSi. Though both bodies are the same form, the XSi has better grippy surfaces applied to it. Even just handling them in the store, the XS always felt like it was going to slip out of my hands, while the XSi had a more solid feel. A little thing that I thought made a huge difference in the overall feel.
I believe the XSi also has a larger screen, and it has a little more resolution. |

Be sure to spend time researching the lenses, as they will last you a long time. Bodies can be sold and replaced, but good quality glass will last a long time! |
